BOOK AND MUSIC CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,402, dated November 17, 1885.
Application filed July 21, 1884. Serial No.138,373. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. H UNSAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vienna, Johnson county, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful machine, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a book and music clamp, which is used for holding the leaves down when the hook is opened. Figure 1 reprepresents the clamp closed, 'not in use. Fig. 2 represents the clamp open ready for use. Fig. 3 represents the clamp in use upon a book.
The following is the manner of making it. Take a piece of brass spring-wire N o. 10, twenty-eight inches long, coiled in center one and one-half winds, coil one and one-half inch in diameter, thetwo arms Nos. 2 and 3 extending about four inches to Nos. 8 and 9, then bent at right angles, meeting and passing each other at and 11, then again bent at right angles, extending onward parallel with each other in Nos. 4 and 5. Nos. 6 and 7 represent a cross-bar of metal, five-eighths of an inch wide and ten inches long, firmly soldered to No. 4 at right angles. The same principles can be applied to all sizes of the devices.
To operate the clamp, place the thumb at No. 2, the fingers beneath No. 3. Close the hand. This will separate Nos. 4 and 5. Place the clamp upon the book with No. 5 beneath and N o. 4 on top in center. The cross-bar Nos. 6 and 7 will be across the pages. Let go the hand, and the book is clamped. Remove it in the same manner.
What I desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s 1. The book-clamp consisting of two arms bent to cross each other and united by aspringcoil, the upper arm carrying a cross-bar, substantially as described.
2. The book-clamp composed of a springwire coiled at 1, extended into arms 2 3, bent JOHN E. HUNSAKER.
