Description

Dec. 13, 1966 c. G. MORENA INDEX CLIP Filed June 17, 1964 INVENTOR CA emelv 6. Moms/VA United States Patent Ofiice 3,290,810 Patented Dec. 13, 1966 3,290,810 INDEX CLIP Carmen G. Morena, 48 Columbus St., Providence, RI. Filed June 17, 1964, Ser. No. 375,812 2 Claims. (Cl. 40-23) This invention relates to office supplies and more particularly to an item of office supplies that is used for indexing in file cabinets and the like, and by reason of its herein described method of attachment it is known as an index clip.
Nearly everyone connected with an office is always looking for means of increasing the efficiency of the personnel by reducing the time required to do any given job. Management looks at the matter from a time-saving viewpoint, and the employees see it as a way to call managements attention to their efficiency.
The problem of indexing has always been a big and time-consuming one, particularly when the indexing is being continually changed, as is necessary in the filing in some kinds of businesses. While many different devices have been invented to solve this problem, nearly all of the ones yet placed on the market are either too expensive when used in any quantity; or else they are of questionable value when placed in everyday use.
It is, therefore, the main object of this invention to provide an index clip that can be produced and retailed at a price everyone can afford and yet be practical in use.
Another object of this invention is to provide an index clip that can be made to be used with the ordinary paper clip as a means of support from whatever file card or folder that is secured.
Another object of this invention is to provide an index clip that can be produced in a modified form in an easily attachable manner.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an index clip that can be used in any size of file cabinet or box and on any kind of file folder or card with equal success.
Another object of this invention is to provide an index clip that can be made from any desired material such as plastic, cardboard, or lightweight metal.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an index clip that can have any indicia one may desire printed or otherwise noted thereon.
These and other objects of this invention will be fully illustrated in the drawing, described in the specification and pointed out in the claims as the end thereof.
In the accompanying drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a pictorial front view of one form of this invention.
FIGURE 2 is a pictorial back view of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a pictorial front view of two of the index clips shown in FIGURE 1 secured together on a paper clip.
FIGURE 4 is a pictorial view of a typical file drawer in an open position showing this invention in actual use.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, there is indicated by the reference character 6 a typical index clip produced according to the present specification, and embodying a basically square piece of plastic or any other desired material having its lower edges angled inwardly and terminating in a second and smaller square 7 that is thicker at 8 than the rest of the clip when the device is viewed from the side and where it will also be seen that the bottom 9 is beveled at a 45 degree angle in order to prevent any edges from breaking or damaging papers that may be in the file, as well as to prevent them from catching on this novel index clip as the papers are removed or as the divider on which the index clip is located is removed.
FIGURE 3 pictorially illustrates two of the index clips shown in FIGURE 1 secured together on a paper clip 10 by means of an adhesive on the back 11 thereof. The index clip may be moved around to the side position shown in phantom lines in this figure if it is so desired.
The index clip is placed on the aforesaid paper clip 10 merely by pressing the two sides of the aforesaid index clip 6 together, the pressure being applied directly opposite the point where the paper clip 10 passes through the index clip (sides of the hollow portion thereof). This just mentioned pressure will naturally open or spread the two small square portions 7 of this device apart thereby allowing the index clip 6 to be placed on, or removed from, the often mentioned paper clip 10.
Changes may be made in the detail construction of this novel invention as well as in the material and still keep the same within the scope of the appended claims.
Having now described my invention of an index clip, what I now claim as new is:
1. An index clip of the character described comprising a square piece of plastic having its lower end terminating in a second square piece of plastic having a beveled bottom, the said second square piece of plastic being smaller than the first mentioned piece of plastic with which it is integral and a second and like index clip being secured to the first mentioned-index clip by means of an adhesive on the back surface of the first mentioned square piece of plastic, a wire paper clip having an end for receiving papers and a closed end, the paper clip being in the same plane as the index clip with the closed end extending across the index clip between said second square pieces, the said index clipbeing adapted to securement on a paper clip by manually pressing the sides of the said index clip together at the intersection of the first mentioned square piece of plastic and the second mentioned square piece of plastic.
2. The combination of claim 1 in which at least one of the second square pieces has a thickened portion extending from its inner surface near said beveled bottom.
