Description
UNITED STATES i am PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. OAVELLE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BUT-TON.`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,080, dated September 8, 1885.
Application filed February 1e, 1885. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that l, GEORGE W. OAVELLE, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons for 'clothing; and it consists of the combination, with a button, of a safety-pin provided with a swivel cross-bar for securing and protecting the ends and points of the pins.
The object of the invention is to provide a button for attaching to pantaloons, drawers, stockings, and suspenders Without the need of sewing, and which is readily removable and changeable.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are frontand back views of my improved button as designed to be used on Suspenders.
Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are front, side, and back views of a button designed for pantaloons and similar garments. Fig. 6 is a button as designed for stockings and the like for attaching garters or supporting straps.
a is a disk-button having its shank attached to a bar or plate, b. To one end of said plate b is hinged a double pin, c c. To the other end of said plate b is attached a swiveled crossbar, d, which,'when turned crosswise, as seen in Figs. 1, 2,3, and 5, holds down and protects 3o the points of the pins c c, when the button is attached to a garment.
When the button is to be either attached or detached, the said swivel-bar d is turned in the position shown in Figs. 4 and 6. Then the 35 pins can be inserted or Withdrawn, as desired.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the button is designed to be attached to suspender-webbing in place of the ordinary buckle, in which case the bar d may be made in the form of a shield in any orna- 4o mental design that taste may suggest.
Having described my invention, I claim- The combination, with the button a and plate b, provided with the double pin c c, of the swivel cross-bar d, as and for the purposes de- 45 scribed.
GEORGE W. CAVELLE.
