Description

(No Model.)
WITNESSES f L. LEHRLIOH.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEO EHRLIOH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,702, dated July 21, 1885.
Application filed November 11, 1884. (No model.)
To (tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO EHRLIOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in bottle-stoppers, and is designed to produce a device that may be firmly secured in a bottle and effectually prevent the escape or dishonest extraction of its contents, andthat may be easily and quickly removed when desirable. It may be made of such length as to reach the flare of the bottle-neck and be locked therein, a removable key being provided for the purpose, as well as for operating it under other circumstances.
In describing the device reference is had to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective of the stopper, and Fig. 2 a section through the same.
A designates a cylinder,of flexible material, having within it an internally-screwthreaded piece, B,which has integral with its outer end a disk, G, the projecting portion of the same engaging under the end of the cylinder A. A disk, D, is provided on one side with an annular shoulder, E,which in turn has a similar shoulder, F. The shoulder F projects 'into the cylinder A, which has its end resting against the shoulder E.
Passing centrally through the disk D is a screw-bolt, G, provided with a cylindrical head which is countersunk into the said disk. The bolt G engages in the piece B, and, with the disk D, serves to form a clamp for the flexible piece A, which, if preferred, may be The head of 0 other shape than cylindrical. the bolt G is provided with two holes, H, diametrically opposite, so that the said bolt may be operated by the key I.
When the stopper is inserted in a bottleneck and the piece A contracted longitudinally, and hence expanded laterally, by means of the screw and pieces B and D, it is securely fixed, and it is practically impossible to withdraw the same or for the contents of the bottle to escape. Thus pilfering of the said contents is obviated, and loss from dishonesty or other cause prevented.
What I claim is A bottle-stopper consisting of a flexible piece, of cylindrical or other shape, a disk provided with an annular shoulder on which is raised a smaller shoulder, said disk having a countersunk hole passing through it, an internally-screw-threaded piece with a disk formed on one end, and a headed screw-bolt, the whole combined substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affixmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEO EHRLIOH. WVitnesses:

P. L. LYLES.
