JOHN P. LINDSAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JAMES E. VVILDEY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN CAPS FOR BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,545, dated December 3, 1878; application filed September 5, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN P. LINDSAY,- of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gaps for Bottles, 850.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The figure is a perspective View of the bottle-cap constituting my invention.
This invention relates to caps which may be placed upon the necks of bottles, over the cork, and locked or secured, so as to prevent the tampering with the contents of such bottles, jugs, demijohns, &c., to which they may have been applied.
In the accompanying drawings, P P refer to a bisected cap, it being sectioned vertically or longitudinally, and each section is provided with two downwardly-projectin g arms, S S, one attached to each side. These arms are hinged or pivoted together, scissors-like, in pairs, with their lower ends connected to two semicircular bands or plates, It It, which fit around the neck of the bottle, over whose cork the cap P P is placed, and below the bulge or head formed in or upon said neck of bottle.
T is a hasp, hinged to the top of one of the sections of the cap P P and fitting down upon the other cap-section, which is provided with a staple, U, extending up though a slot in the hasp. The hasp is locked in position preferably by a padlock, which is attached to the staple U. Other means, of course, may be used to accomplish the same end.
By removing or unlocking the lock from the staple passing through the hasp, the parts or sections of the cap can be separated, simultaneously with which movement of these parts the .clasps or bands It will be sufficiently removed from the bottle-neck to enable the removal of the cap from the bottle, when its cork can be withdrawn.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The bisected cap P P, with each of its sec tions provided with arms S S, hinged 0r pivoted together in pairs, scissorslike, in combi nation with the hasp T, staple U, and clasps or bands R It, connected to the lower ends to the arms S S, substantially as and for the purposeset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN P. LINDSAY.
Witnesses 7 WILLIAM V. A. PoE, CHARLES F. WILDEY.
