Application filed February 27, 1885. (No model.)
connected to a supporting-rack, and that a card may be secured to the blockback of the face-plate.
To this effect the invention consists in the features of improvement hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an alphabet-block embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a modification.
With particular reference to Fig. 1, the let-' ter a represents the face-plate of an alphabetblock, which is open or cut away to present the outline of an open letter. At the lower edge the platea is provided with abackwardlyextending bottom-piece, c, which is bent upward, as shown, to constitute a seat for a card.
At the top a flange, d, is formed, which is first i bent backward and is then inclined down- 3 ward. The card is slipped between the horizontal portions of the top and bottom pieces,
while the inclined portion of flange (1 serves to suspend the blockover the supporting-rail.
The construction shown in Fig. 2 is thesame g as that shown in Fig. 1, with the exception that the top and bottom pieces, c d, are bent first in a horizontal direction then toward' each other, and then again in a horizontal di- The chamber thus formed directly 4 rection. back of plate a serves to receive the cardboard, while the two outer wings of the flanges c d are slipped below and above theedges of p the supporting-rail to hold the block in place.
I claim as my invention-.
'. 4 i As a new article of manufacture, an alphabet-block having open-face plate a and backwardly-extending flange 0, adapted to receive a piece of card-board, and means for holding a the block to a rack, substantially as specified. 5 'DE -WITT C. TAYLOR,
