Patented July '7, 1885.

GEORGE W. GONOVER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED CIGAR-CASE AND MATCH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,485, dated July 7, 1885.
(N 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. CONOVER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia an d State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cigar-Case and Match-Holder,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for the purpose of holding and carrying cigars and matches in the pocket, and has for its object the provision of a combined cigar-case and match-pocket cheap and simple to construct and handy to use.
To attain the desired end,my invention consists, essentially. in a receptacle or case for cigars,of suitable size, shape, and material, in combination with a match-pocket formed in said case, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of my device. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view at line a: as of Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A is the front wall, and A the rear wal1,of the case, held together by side pieces, A", and bottom A As the sides and bottom are flexible and fold inward, the cigars D will not be crushed, and the empty cases may be pressed flat, occupying but little space. The front wall, A, is provided with a slot, a, leading to a pocket, B, in the inside of the receptacle adapted to hold matches 0. In the drawings, the matches are shown as having their heads projecting from the pocket, but in use they would be reversed,to preventignition by friction against the sides of the pocketof the user. I
hen constructed and arranged as above described, my device will be found admirably adapted to the uses and purposes for which it is intended. It may be made of fine material or constructed cheaply, and used in lieu of the ordinary small bags employed by cigardealers.
I am aware of the existence of Letters Pet cut granted to Maddock, October 3, 1876, and to Perry, November 21, 1865, for improve ments in boxes, cases, and pouches, and to Paddoclz,Jauuary 14,1873, i'or match-safes, and to the constructions therein shown and described I make no claim; but
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to se cure by Letters Patent, is
The combined cigar-case and matcl1-holder 6o herein described, consisting of the front and rear pieces, A A'-,held together by side pieces,
A A and forming a tapering cigar-receptacle open at the top, the front piece being provided with a slot, a, leading to a pocket, B, on the inside of the receptacle adapted to hold matches, all constructed as described and shown.
Signed at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, this 23d day of December, A. D. 188i.
GEORGE XV. COXOVER.
