7 E. CURTIS.
ELECTRICAL GAME INDICATOR FOR POOL TABLES.
No. 820,542. Patented June 23, 1885.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIAS CURTIS, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
ELECTRICAL GAME-INDICATOR FOR POOL-TABLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,542, dated June 23, 1885.
I Application filed July 29, 1884. (No model To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIAS GURTIs, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented a new and useful Electrical (lame-Indicator for Pool-Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in providing the tabe with a pendulous support for the triangle in such a manner that the weight of the triangle, when not in use and suspended from such support, serves to hold open an electrical circuit, and by the removal of the triangle from the said support the circuit is thereby automatically closed and the table is indicated to be in service.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Figures 1 and 2 are sectional elevations showing the manner of attaching a circuit-closing device to the end of a table. Fig. 3 is-a perspective View of a table to which the apparatus has been applied, and Fig. 4 shows a construction for the elastic circuitclosing arm, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
The table 1? has titted to one end or side, and projecting therefrom at a right angle, a metal hook, A, the inner extremity of which has the circuit-wire H fixed thereto, and is inserted in or attached to the body of said table, the outer end being turned upward and provided with a contact head or lug, D, as shown. The elastic circuit-closing arm is attached to the table in substantially the same manner asis the hook, and the portion F of said arm to which the battery-wire G is attached has a contact arm, B, hinged at C to its outer extremity.
When the pool-table Pis not in use, the triangle T, which is attached to said table by a short chain or a cord, so that it may not be mislaid, is placed upon the hook A, the weight overcomes the power of the spring O,which is attached to the fixed portion F of the elastic arm, and the hinged arm B is depressed until its outer end comes in contact with and rests upon the insulator E of the hook A, thereby breaking the circuit from the battery S, and showing by the indicator R, which is connected to the battery by the wire L, that the table is not in service. hen, however, the said triangle is removed from the hook, the circuit is immediately closed by the elas tic arm B coming in contact with the head D of the hook A, and an alarm sounded, and a game is shown to be in progress by the indicator R.
I do not desire to limit myself to the par ticular arrangement of apparatus that I have shown for carrying out my invention, for it is obvious that the details in construction may be greatly varied in this respect without de parting from the spirit of the device.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a gaming-table, of an electric battery and indicating device having connecting wires leading from said battery and indicating device to a projection, provided with a circuit-closing arm and a hanger, whereby upon the removal of the hanger said indicating device automatically produces an audible or visible signal showing a game to be in progress, substantially as specified.
2. A billiard-table provided with a hook, insulator, head, hinged arm, joint, and rigid arm, in combination with a battery and indicating device, for the purposes substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in. presence of two witnesses.
ELIAS CURTIS.
