FREDONIA, KANSAS,
ASSIGNOBS OF ONEHALF TO H. T. SMALL AND \VILLIAM J. SOHUBERT,
BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
GLOVE AND NOTION HOLDER.
PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,057, dated June 16 1885.
(No model.)
T0 (0 whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES H. FREANER and SIMON GoLDrxe, citizens of the United States, residing at Fredonia, in the county of Vilson and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Glove and Notion Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to a glove or notion holder.
Heretofore samples of goods-such as shirts, gloves, cards of buttons, &c.have been attached to the outside of the box to exhibit the same; but such attaching has been permanent, so that should a customer desire to closely examine the goods it was necessary to remove them from the box, thus causing much trouble and delay, especially in cases where the goods which a customer wished to examine were at the bottom of a pile, and, moreover, by permanently attaching a sample to the outside of the box it was rendered unsalable by becoming shop-worn.
Our invention has for its object to obviate these diliieulties by providing a holder which may be readily attached to or detached from a box,to provide a holder which may belongitudinally adjusted to the length of goods to be supported thereby, and further to provide aholder with vertically-adjust-ablesupportingarms.
IVith these ends in view the invention con; sists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a box, showing my improved clamp or holder applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view of the holder detached from a box, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the holder.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, A represents our improved clamp or holder, which is constructed as follows:
B B represent two plates, the outer ends of which are turned inwardly to form passages a. The plate B is provided with alongitudinal slot, 1), running nearly its entire length,
Secured in the passages a at their lower ends 5 5 are clamping-arms G, the other ends of which extend upwardly and are bent downwardly upon themselves, so that said ends are on a horizontal line, or nearly so, with the lower edge of the plates B B, and are bent to form loops 0. The other ends of said arms extend a slight distance below the passages a, and are bent to form outwardly extending loops (1. The said arms G are held in the passages a by the inturned ends of the plates B B bit-ing or bearing tightly against the same, thus prevent ing any vertical movement of said arms.
E represents the holder-arms, the upper ends of which are bent to form eyes f, which fit around the upwardly-extcnding portions of the arms 0. The other ends of the arms pass through the outward]yextending eyes or loops (1, and are then bent upwardly,as shown at 9, thus forming a spring holder-arm.
The above-described holder is applied to a box and used in the following manner: The plates B B are first adjusted to the length of the goods to be exhibited, and the arms 0 engaged with one of the side walls of the box, thus supporting the holder, the lower ends of the arms O bearing against the said wall 011 the inner side thereof. Theholder-arins may then be adjusted to the height of the box that is, in cases where a series or number of boxes are arranged one upon the other. Said arms will be held at any desired adjustment by the loop at the upper end thereof bearing against the outer side wall of the box.
The above-described device is adapted for holding a variety of articles, and may be adjusted in the manner described to fit boxes of various sizes. Its construction is simple. It may be manufactured and supplied at a slight cost, and it affords ready and convenient means for the purposes for which it is intended.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a glove and notion holder, the combination, with a plate or plates, of verticallyadjustable holder-arms adapted to engage the side wall of a box, and attaching-arms, as set forth.
2. In a glove or notion holder, the combination, with a plate or plates, of verticallyadjustable holder-arms, and attaching-arms secured to said plate or plates, said arms being adapted to engage the side wall of a box, as set forth.
3. In a glove and notion holder, the combination, with a plate or plates, of verticallyadjustable spring holder-arms, and attachingarms connected with said plate or plates, said arms being adapted to engage the side wall of a box, as set forth.
' 4. In a glove or notion holder, the combination, with a plate or plates, of verticallyadjustable spring holder-arms, and spring attaching-arms connected with said plate or plates, as set forth.
5. In a glove or notion holder, the combination, with a plate or plates, of verticallyadjustable spring holder-arms, and spring attaching-arms rigidly connected with the said plate or plates, said holder-arms being mounted on the attaching-arms, as set forth.
6. The combination, with a plate or plates, of attaching-arms connected therewith, said attaching-arms having loops at their lower ends, and holder-arms adapted to fit and slide in said loops, as set forth.
7. The combination, with a plate or plates, of attaching-arms connected therewith, loops formed at the lower ends of said arms, and having their other ends bent downwardly and formed with loops, and holder-arms mounted to slide on said attaching-arms, as set forth.
8. The combination, with a plate or plates, of attaching-arms rigidly connected with said plate or plates, loops formed at the lower ends of said arms, and holder-arms having their upper ends formed with loops, substantially as set forth.
9. The combination, with a plate or plates, of attaching-arms, rigidly secured by the inturned ends of said plate or plates, loops at the ends of said arms, and holder-arms having loops, the loops on the attaching-arms inclosing the holder-arms, while the loops on the holder-arms inclose the attaching-arms, as set forth.
. 10. The combination, with longitudinallyadjustable plates, of spring attaching-arms, and spring holder-arms, substantially as set forth.
11. The combination, with longitudinallyadjustable plates, of attaching-arms and vertically-adjustable holder-arms, as set forth.
12. The combination, with longitudinallyadjustable plates, of spring attaching-arms, and vertically-adj nstable spring holder-arms, as set forth.
13. The combination, with longitudinally adjustable plates, of spring attaching-arms, formed with eyes at their lower ends, and holderarms formed with eyes, said holderarms'being adjustable upon the attachingarms, as set forth.
14. The combination, with the attachingarm bent or doubled, as described, and formed with an outwardly-extending loop at one of its ends, of a holder-arm bent or doubled and formed at one of its upper ends with a loop, said holder-arm sliding upon the attachingarm, as set forth.
15. The herein-described glove and notion holder, consisting of the longitudinally-adjust-able plates, the attaching-arms having the loops, as described, and bent in the manner described, and the holder-arms having loops, as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
