Specification of Letters Patent No. 31,980, dated April 9, 1861.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DUANE HULL, of Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Driers; and I do hereby declare that `the following .is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, referenoe being had to. the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or birdseye view; Fig. 2 a side elevation (when extended); Fig. 3 a plan View (when folded up); Fig. 4 elevation and plan view (when folded).

I take a block of wood or any other mate rial that will do, marked B in all the figures of drawings, niake the sides of said block a little concaved as represented by the end views in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3, then take four other pieces of wood or other material that will do, and with screws or other fastenings that will answer the same purpose, screw or fasten the said four pieces to the said block B upon its concave surfaces, so as to turn or revolve on said screws, then attach cord from one stick or piece to the otheras represented in Fig. l, and the clothes drier is complete.

The object of the concave surfaces on the block marked B is that, when the four pieces or arms, of said clothes driers are eX- tended they will remain frni, and when folded they will be loose and then the screws can be turned easily.

I do not claim the four sticks or pieces, or line or block B; but

The concave surfaces of said block B, in combination with said four pieces or arms,

and line (or cord), substantially as and for the purpose specified.
