Description
UNITED STATES PATENT oEE'roE.u
JOSEPH F. POND, OF CLEVELAND. OHIO.
HOOP OF SKELETON SHIRTS.
Specification of Letters Patent No T o all whom it 'ma/y concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. POND, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Skirt- Hoops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, forming part of this specification, in the Several figures of which similar characters of reference denote the same part.
Figure l is a view of the skirt with the hoops in, ready for use. Fig. 2 is a view of hoop itself, Showing the manner of its construction.
The nature of the invention consists in having an eye on one extremity of the hoop, and on the other a series of set offs, so that when the hoop is run through the tuck in the skirt, the one end is passed through the eye on the other end, and said eye catching against the Set off, holds its securely; and by moving the eye to either of the Set offs the circumference of the hoop is increased or diminished as desired.
In the drawings S, represents the skirt, I-I, the hoop having the eye 6, at one end and the series of set offs a, at the other.
The skirt itself is open all the way down 25,583, dated September 27, 1859.
and fastened together by buttons or strings between the hoops.
The hoops I-I, are run through the tucks in the skirt S, and the one end run through the eye on the other, and Said eye catching against the set offs holds it securely, the overlapping end being also run into the tuck of the skirt, which assists to render the fastening of the hoop more secure. And when desired to increase or diminish the circumference of the hoop the skirt is pushed back, and the eye moved tothe desired set off, and the skirt run over the hoop in its proper position again. This forms a secure fastening for the hoop and renders the adjustability of its circumference very easy.
Having thus described my improvement I claim,
The combination of the eye e, on one extremity of the hoop Vwith the series of set offs a, on the other, constructed and operated substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH F. POND. litnesses W. NEVINS DonSEY, JOHN S. HOLLINGSHEAD.
