Description
UNITED STATES PATENT `FFTCE BUCKLE FOR SKIRT-HOOPS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 22,385, dated December 21, 1858.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, JOHN S'rEvnNs and JAMES HANLEY, both of the city and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Fastening the, Ends of Hoops, Particularly such Hoops as are used for Ladies Skirts; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in making -a buckle with an eye `formed to admit the passage of the hoops7 ends through it as seen at A Figures l and 2, one end of the hoop overlapping the other as seen at Fig. 4. The depression of the end ofthe buckle operates as a lever pressing them together; each end of the buckle terminates with a hook H, H, and when the end of the buckle is brought down to the hoops surl face a ring slide Fig. 3, with a hole in it at b, is passed over the end of the buckle. so that the hook of the buckle springs into the hole of the slide and thus the Jfastening is made secure.
To release the buckle it is only necessary to depress its end close to the slide piece, thus drawing the hook out of the hole and allowing the slide to be removed.
Fig. 5 represents the hoop joint as made by the above means.
Ve claim- The buckle when constructed substantially in the manner described in combination with the slides having holes to receive the hook of the buckle for the purpose set forth.
JOHN STEVENS. J AMES HANLEY. vWitnesses F. B. VAKEMAN, TIMY FOLEY.
