IMPROVEMENT IN PACKING BAR-LEAD.
Spccilication forming part ol' Letters Patent No. 23,031, dated February 221, 1859.

Be it known that I, ZEEULoN KINsEY, of Dubuque, Dubuque county, State of Iowa, have invented a new and improved method of putting up packages of cast or wrought bars, pigs or ingots of lead, tin7 zinc, or other metal; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
First. I prepare a bar or bolt in the form substantially of that. marked Bin the drawing, having at one end a head, (see H,) and at the other end a slit. (See K.)
Second. I prepare the ingots which I wish to make up into packages with such perforalions, or perforate them in such manner and place, that when several of them are laid together the perforations are brought in juxtaposition.
The drawing marked C represents an ingot with perforations near each end, marked S.
Third. To make up the package I pass the said bolt into the perforations of as many ingots as I wish in one bundle, pressing it `home to the head, holding the package firmly in this position. I open the end of the bolt at the slit K, and bend the respective halves in opposite directions, forcing them closely down upon the upper ingot. When this is done the 4package is complete and ready tortransportation.
