Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES MCNAMEE, OF EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO JAMES B. WILSON, OF SAME PLACE.
iMPRovEMi-:NT IN sizwiNe-PlNs.l
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33, l69, dated August 27, 1861.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES MCNAMEE, of Easton, in the county of Northampton and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful device which I term a Sewing- Pin for Holding the Work in Hand Sewing, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this spe'ctication, in Which-v Figure l is a perspective view ofthe device. Fig. 2 is a central section ot' the saine. Fig. 3 represents a lady at work to illustrate the use of the device.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in the several igures.
My invention consists in a plate or stock with three hooks, two at one end turned in one direction and one at the other end turned in the opposite direction, the two to be hooked into the garments at a ladys knee and the other to hook into and hold the work, such device being very much more convenient to use than either a common pin for pinning the work to the knee or a sewing-bird and much less expensive than the sewing-bird.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the drawings.
A is the stock, made of a piece of metal plate or other kind of metal or of other material in the form of a shield, as represented, or of any other design.
(t a are the two hooks attached to one end of the stock A and turned back under the back thereof, andb is the third hook attached to the opposite end of the stock and turned back over the face thereof` the said hooks all having sharp points to enable them to penetrate easily the fabrics of the dress and the fabric to be sewed.
To use the device, the two hooks a a, are
-tirst hooked into the dress at the knee, with their point-s toward the body of the lady using it, and need not be moved while she remains sitting at work. The material to be sewed is then placed on the hook l), as shown in Fig. 3, in which the said material is tinted of a blue color, and the work proceeded with till it becomes desirable to shift the material, when it is unhooked from the said hook b and hooked at a higher point, and the work is proceeded with again as before.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent as an improved article of manufacture- A sewing-pin composed of a plate or stock A and hooks a d b, as herein shown and described.
JAMEs MCNAMEE.
