Description
UNITED STATES y' PATENT OFFICE.
ELTZABETH F. BEDFORD AND SIDNEY S. BEDFORD, OF JOHNSTOWN, N. Y.
LADIES LEGG|NS.
Specilcation forming part of Letters Patent No. 42,157, dated April 5, 1864.
To all whom it may conce-rn:
Be it known that we, ELIZABETH F. BED- FORD and SIDNEY S. BEDFORD, of Johnstown, county of Fulton, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ladies Leggins; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature oi' our invention is the shape and c mstruction of the leggin.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction, as follows p Figure lis a front view Fig. 2, a side view.
A represents the outside leggin, made of leather and cloth, so shaped and constructed as to fit the shape of the leg, extending down from the upper part ofthe calf to the anklejoint and over the instep, and cover over or lit inside neatly a ladys gaiter, being eut in a curve beneath, sloping to a point in front.
B represents the opening from the point in front below, extending half-way up the leggin A, its sides being neatly bound and sewed, and having six or more eyelets,.O, on each side and a tongue, D, for the purpose of cording or drawing the leggin with a. cord or tape, E,
closely to the leather tongue D and the ankle,
attached below, which fits under the cnter of the foot to keep the leggin to its place. An
inside leggin, J, made of Vfine wool, is neatlyl and permanently bound and stitched to the outside leggin, A, to keep the leg of the wearer warm i'n the coldest of weather. At the top of this inside leggin, J, au elastic garter, K, is attached to clasp the leg to hold the top of the leggin in its place, prevent it from contracting itself into wrinkles, and completely prevent thecold air from getting into the top of the leggin, thus forming the most comfortable ladies7 leggin which can be used on the iuside of a ladys gaiter, or covrr over the top of the gaiter, very light and pleasant to the wearer, and a perfect protection from inclement weather.4
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction. and arrangement of the ladies leggin as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
