Definitions
- the invention relates to a refuse or garbage collection or retaining system. More particularly, it relates to the improved utilization of economical, but strong, paper bags in the gathering of litter of all kinds through the provision of a simple, but novel and inventive, holder for such bags.
- FIGURE 1 is an isometric view of the bag holder of the present invention
- FIGURE 2 is an isometric view of the bag holder of FIGURE 1 shown open and ready to receive a bag made of paper or like material including one which is partly or wholly thermoplastic;
- FIGURE 3 is a sectional front view of the bag holder of FIGURE 1 in use, taken along line 3-3 in FIGURE
- FIGURE 4 is a sectional side view of the bag holder of FIGURE 1, taken along line 44;
- FIGURE 5 is a sectional side view of the bag holder of FIGURE 4 in use, also taken along line 44;
- FIGURE 6 is a sectional side view of the bag holder of FIGURE 2, taken along line 66;
- FIGURE 7 is an isometric view of a corner portion of the bag holder of FIGURE 1;
- FIGURE 8 is a sectional rear view of the corner portion of FIGURE 7, taken along line 8-8;
- FIGURE 9 is a sectional rear view of the bag holder of FIGURE 4, taken along line 9-9.
- FIGURE 1, 2, and 4 depict the basic elements of the bag holder of the present invention, including opposed front side 10 and rear side 11, opposed lateral sides 12 and 13, and bottom 14, all of which go: to make up a four-sided receptacle having the form of a truncated pyramid and a rectangular open upper end defined by the edges of sides 10, 11, 12 and 13.
- lid 15 which is disposed over the open end to close it or swung back therefrom with the help of a hinge means (see FIGURE 6) which is mounted on the back of panel 11 and connected to an end of lid 15.
- Lid 15 has skirts 15a.
- FIGURES 1, 2, and 4 also illustrate the provision in side 10 of another hinge or the like which permits the ice upper portion 10a of such side to be opened and swung downwardly for the purpose, for instance, of removing the receptacle contents and, then, swung upwardly, back into place. Further, they show clamping bar 16 which has a U-configuration or shape and its ends connected to the same hinge means utilized by lid 15. Hand grip 16a in bar 16 is also visible.
- FIGURES 3 and 5 show the apparatus of FIGURE 1 and, disposed therein, a bag 17 made of paper of one or more plies which has been given a flange 18 at its open upper end or mouth.
- the flange is seen to be disposed between and securely held by receptacle side 12 and clamping bar 16.
- FIGURES 4, 6, and 9 best show the uncomplicated Way by which lid 15 and bar 16 can be hinged from side 11.
- a fixture 18 is welded, soldered, or otherwise aflixed to panel 11 and it, the ends of bar 16, and skirts 15a of lid 15 are given oversize holes through which bolt 19 can pass and be secured by nut 20.
- a washer 21 aids in the securing and the latter required movement of the parts.
- FIGURES 7 and 8 depict how upper portion 10a of side 10 is usefully secured in place, as in FIGURE 1.
- the border 10b thereof is offset at its end to fit inside side 13.
- Side 13 is, then, held between elements 10b and 100, and this hold is increased by a registration of a dimple 10d formed in 10c and a small hole 13a formed in panel 13.
- both lid 15 and bar 16 are lifted away from the open upper end of the receptacle therein.
- a paper bag 17 or the like is then placed in the receptacle and a pre-formed or presently formed flange 18 on the upper end of the bag is disposed over the edges of the sides 10 to 13 of the receptacle.
- the bar 16 is next dropped into place outside and about flange 18 and pressed tightly home against sides 10 to 13 with or without the helpof grip 16a. Refuse can then be put in the bag and the lid dropped into place.
- lid 15 and bar 16 are again raised, upper half 10a of front side 10 is lowered along the hingeline therein, and bag 17, which can weigh many pounds, can be taken from the receptacle without having to lift the load to the height of the receptacle.
- a disposable refuse bag holder having four connected, downwardly and outwardly sloping members disposed to define a rectangular opening, a partially removable lid disposed over the opening, hinge means connected to one end of the lid and mounted on one of two first opposed sloping members, a substantially U-shaped disposable refuse bag clamping bar rotatably connected at its ends to the hinge means and adjustably disposed to impinge under the lid against the outsides of the other of the two first opposed sloping members and two second opposed sloping members.
- a disposable refuse bag holder having four connected, downwardly and outwardly sloping members disposed to define a rectangular opening, a partially removable lid disposed over the opening, hinge means connected to one end of the lid and mounted on one of two first opposed sloping members, a substantially U-shaped disposable refuse bag clamping bar rotatably connected at its ends to the hinge means and adjustably disposed to impinge under the lid against the outsides of the other of the two first opposed sloping members and two second opposed sloping members, and an open mouth disposable refuse bag having an upper end defined by a flange formed thereon inwardly of edges of the bag sides, the flange being disposed between the outsides of the sloping members and the disposable refuse bag clamping bar.
