Description

March 1, 1949. B. s. KIELRICK 2,462,973
REFUSE BAG HOLDER OR THE LIKE Filed' Jan. 29, 1946 Patented Mar. 1, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a combined holder and bracket for holding containers such as garbage bags.
The device made in accordance with this invention has many practical advantages over other existing methods of garbage disposal.
Amongst these advantages may be mentioned the following:
(a) Labor saving-it clamps to the edge of the standard kitchen sink at convenient table height eliminating stooping and minimizing the possibility of spilling. It is simple to keep clean.
Sanitary-garbage can be immediately disposed of, not leaving container to collect odor, germs or rust.
(c) Inexpensivethe extreme economy of the construction encourages wide utility.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a very efiicient practical and economical bracketand holder for receptacles such as paper garbagebags which provides a simple self-locking and clamp support.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a clamping arrangement adapted to support a paper garbage bag or the like and to suspend the latter from an edge of a sink, wash-tub, or the like.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a bag-holder which may be readily suspended and which is characterized by its simplicity of construction and efficiency of operation.
Other objects and advantages will be in part obvious from the annexed drawing and in part hereinafter indicated in connection therewith by the following analysis of this invention.
This invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of parts and in the unique relations of the members and in the relative proportioning and disposition thereof, all as more completely outlined herein.
To enable others skilled in the art so fully to comprehend the underlying features thereof that they may embody the same by the numerous modifications in structure and relation contemplated by this invention, a drawing depicting certain forms of the invention has been annexed as a part of this disclosure, and in such drawing, like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout all the views, of which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing a combined holder and bracket made in accordance With the invention and shown in complete assembled condition with a paper bag in place.
Fig. 2 are perspective views of various parts which go to make up the complete assembly of the combined holder, and'bracketshownin Figql.
Referring now more particularly tome-drawing, which shows one form in which theinvntion may be realized, there is disclosed .a substantially U shaped clamping element generally indicated by the numeral l and having cut-outs la, .thesaid element terminating, in an angular portion Ilbf.
A channelled block 2 is channelled at'its sides as indicated at 20. and is provided with perforations 2b and 2d.
There isfurther seen in the drawing an inner substantially elliptical member .3 and. an outer substantially elliptical member 4. Member .3 is provided with a pair of spaced extensions 13a each havin an inwardly extendedlug 3!), ,Extensions 3a are provided with ,twopairs ofperforations 3c and 3d. Member 4 is provided with spaced extensions to havingperforations 4b.
In assembling the device the blockZ is made to rest on the angular portion lb of element l and member 3 is fitted onblocklZ such thatfthe extensions 3a, engage the channels 2a of "block2 and the cut-outs Ia of member I, the inwardly directed portion 3b of member 3 abutting against the inner face of Ushaped member I, with the perforations 30in register with the perforations 2!),
Screw 5 is passed through the rear registered openings lid, 2d of member 3 and block 2 and both members 3 and block 2 are secured together by the nut 6.
Member 4 is now positioned so that its perforations 4c are in register with the front registered openings (30, 2b) of member 3 and block 2; and a pin 1 is made toenter the said openings and perforations. Thus member 4 is pivoted so as to swin upwardly and also downwardly over member 3.
The irregularly shaped ends 41) of extensions do provide abutting means to limit the downward movement of member 4 by said ends engaging the head of bolt or screw 5 and nut 6. The U-shaped clamp I may be made to engage the front vertical wall of sink l0 and the device thus positioned for use.
A paper bag I2 is positioned such that its upper portion 1 I is folded over the elliptical portion of inner member 3 and the outer elliptical member 4 is now swung down so that the said paper bag portion II is clamped between the inner and outer members 3, 4.
It is evident that the paper bag after receiving the refuse may be removed after swinging the member 4 upwardly.
It is thus seen that the present invention pro- 3. vides a simple, and practical refuse bag holder or the like, which will be safe, efiicient, and reliable in use and operation. The device comprises relatively few parts which may be inexpensively manufactured and assembled and which is well adapted to accomplish, among others, all of the objects and advantages herein set forth.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A bag holder adapted to be secured to the wall of a sink, washtub or the like, comprising a U-shaped arm adapted to engage said wall, a first substantially elliptical member having extended portions, a block member having lateral channels adapted to receive said extended portions, means including said extended portions for securing said elliptical member and said block member to said arm, said means further including elongated fastening means extending through a first set of aligned openings provided in said extended portions and in said block member, respectively, a second substantially elliptical member adapted to fit over said first elliptical member thereby to clamp the upper portion of a bag between said elliptical members, said second elliptical member having extended portions provided with holes which register with a second set of aligned openings provided in said first-mentioned portions and in said block member, respectively, and pivot means extendin through said holes and through said second set of openings whereby said second elliptical member will be swingable between a horizontal and a vertical position, the extended portions of said second member abutting projecting ends of said fastening means when said second member is in horizontal position.
2. A bag holder adapted to be secured to the wall of a sink, washtub or the like, comprising a U-shaped arm adapted to engage said wall, said 'arm being formed with a substantially horizontal projection, a block member supported on said 4: projection, a first substantially elliptical member having extended portions which rest in respective lateral channels of said block member, each of said portions being formed with a lug at its end which engages the rear of said arm whereby said elliptical member and said block member are secured to said arm, elongated fastening means extending through a first set of aligned openings provided in said extended portions and in said block member, respectively, a second substantially elliptical member adapted to fit over said first elliptical member thereby to clamp the upper portion of a bag between said elliptical members, said second elliptical member having extended portions provided with holes which register with a second set of aligned openings provided in said first-mentioned portions and in said block member, respectively, and a pivot pin extending through said holes and through said second set of openings whereby said second elliptical member will be swingablebetween a horizontal and a vertical position; the extended portions of said second member having curved ends abutting projecting ends of said fastening means when said second member is in horizontal position.
