Description
Dee. 8, 1925. I J. c. STUGARD FOLDABLE BRACKET Filed Feb 1925 Patented Dec, 8, 1925.
JAMES C. S'IUQABI), OI MUNCY,PENNSYLVAN1A.
FOLDABLE BRACKET.
Application filed February 9, 1925. Serial No. 8,069.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES C. STUGARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muncy, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foldable Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to
make and use the same.
My invention aims to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a very desirable form of bracket for supporting any desired article, ,made whereby an outer article-supporting member is connected with an inner station ary member in such a manner that the two may be rigidly connected for use but may be quickly angled, so as to permit the outer member to fold compactly to an out-of-theway position.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying draw' unique provision Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved bracket with the outer member thereof shaped for use rimarily as a support for a bucket or simfiar article.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on line 3-3 of 2.
Figure 4 is a side elevation illustra the manner in which the outer member 0 the bracket may be folded.
Figure 5 is a plan view illustrating a different form of construction which is adapted for use as a bag holder.
Figure 6 is a side elevation partly in section, showing the device illustrated in Figure 7 is a perspective view of the bag holding ring disclosed in Figs. 5 and 6.
In the drawing above briefl described, the numeral '1 designates a rigi preferably horizontal arm which is adapted to be secured to an appropriate support, for which purpose I have shown it provided with opposltely extending ears 2, through which appropriate fasteners 3 may be passed. The
1 arm 1 is (provided with an inner horizontal slot 4 an with an outer horizontal slot 5, an entrance throat 6 being provided-from the outer end of the latter to the upper bolt 11.
edge of said arm, while at the inner end of said slot 5, the lower side wall of the latter is formed with an ofl'set, locking notch 7. An outer article-supporting member 8, here shown in the form of a flared ring, is provided with parallel arms 9 which extend along opposite sides of the arm 1. it bolt or the like 10 passes through the arms 9 and the slot 4, and another bolt 11 which passes through said arms 9, is receivable in the slot 5-6-T. When the bolt 10 is at the inner end of its slot 4, as seen in Fig. 3, the bolt 11 rests in the offset notch 7, so that accidental outward sliding of the support 8 is prevented and consequently the bolt 11 cannot move upwardly through the throat 6, unless said support 8 is moved by hand in the required manner. This adapts the device particularly for holding a pail 12 from which a calf may be fed, and in practice, I have found that regardless of the calfs butting, the support 8 and the bucket will re main in proper position.
\Vhen the device is not in use, the support 8 may be tilted upwardly to bring the bolt *11 in the horizontal slot 5, whereupon said support may be pulled outwardly until said primarily for supporting a sack, the su port 8 may be connected with the arm 1 in an inverted position as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, and a flared sack-clamping ring 13 may be rovided, said ring having ears 14 stra dling the arms 9 and pivoted upon the By employing the novel construction shown and described, or 'a substantial uivalent thereof, a device is provided w ich is exceptionally simple and inexpensive, yet is very desirable, and may be constructed for application to a wide variety of uses. On account of the advantages derived from the details shown, they are by preference followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, modifications may of course be made.
I claim:
1. A foldable bracket comprising an in ner stationary, member having an inner horizontal slot and an outer horizontal slot,
the outer end of said outer slot having an inlet throat which opens through the upper edge of said member, an outer article-supporting member at the outer end of the inner member, said outer member having an arm disposed at one side of said inner member a fastener passing through said arm and the inner slot of said inner member, and another fastener passing through the arm and the outer slot of said inner member, the first named fastener constituting a pivot for the outer member when the latter is shifted out'svardl and swung to move the second named fastener through the throat of said outer slot, the lower side wall of said outer slot being provided at its inner end with an offset notch to normally receive and form a lock for second named fastener, whereby accidental outward sliding movement of said outerarticle supporting member is prevented.
2. A foldable bracket comprising an inner stationary member having an inner horizontal slot and an outer horizontal slot,
the outer end of said outer slot having an inlet throat which opens through the upper edge of said member, and the inner end of said outer slot having an offset locking notch, an outer article-supporting member at the outer end of the inner member, said outer member being in the form of a ring having a pair of parallel arms straddling said inner member and extending across the inner and outer slots thereof, an inner fastener passing through said arms and said inner slot, and an outer fastener passing through said arms and the outer slot. and adapted to engage said locking notch to prevent accidental outward movementof the outer supporting member, said outer fastener being released from said notch and movablethrough said throat, when the supporting member is swung upwardl i about said inner fastener, and shifted outwardly.
In testimony whereof 'I have hereunto affixed my signature. 7
JAMES C. STUGARD.
