Description

(N0 ModeL) R. HILL.
' TNESSES X W BAG HOLDER,
Patented May 5, 1885.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED R. HILL, OF WAUSEON, 01110.
BAG-H-OLIYDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,356, dated May 5, 1885. Application filed January 22, 1885. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Beitknown that I, ALFRED R. HILL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at WVauseon, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon. which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to bag-holders; and it consists in the improvements hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a bag-holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a front View, and Fig. 3 is a side view, of the same.
A represents a receptacle, which consists of four sides, a a, two of the opposite sides being wedge-shaped, as shown.
To the rear portion of the receptacle A are secured metallic straps b, the upper ends of which are bent over,so as to form hooks, which serve the purpose of supporting the receptacle. These hooks are adapted to enter staples or bails, as shown in Fig. 1; or they may be placed over the edge of agrain-bin. In either case they will hold the receptacle A in a nearly vertical'position.
The two wedge'shaped sides of the receptacle A have secured at their lower ends crossbars 0 d, the ends of the rear cross-bar, d, being pointed, while the crossbar c has square ends.
To one edge of the receptacle A, above the cross-bar c, is rigidly attached a block, 6, the lower edge of which is beveled-inwardly, as seen in Fig. 1. This block serves to retain in position a sliding bar, f, the upper edge of which is beveled, so as to correspond with the inclined face of the block 6, as also seen in Fig. 1. The inner end of this sliding bar is upturned, as shown atf,'so as to form astop, and also to provide for the attachment of the end of the pivoted lever B. The lower end of the pivoted lever B is attached to the sliding bar f by a transverse pin, 9, which enters the slot 2' in the end of the lever. The upper end of the lever 13, above its pivoted portion, has attached thereto a hook, h, which is adapted to engage with the eyes h.
To secure the bag upon the holder, the mouth of the bag is placed over the cross-bars c d. The lever is then moved in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2, which forces the sliding bar f outwardly and draws the mouth of the bag tightly around the ends of the crossbars and the sliding bar. The lever is held in position, when the bar has been forced outwardly, by the hook. By this arrangement the bag can be easily placed upon the receptacle and removed therefrom. If desirable, the lower end of the pivoted bar B may simply abut against the end of the sliding barf, and instead of employing a hook and staple for holding this pivoted bar or lever in place, I may employ a pin, which will enter perforations in the side piece to which the lever B is pivoted.
I claim- 1. The combination, in abag-holder, of the receptacle A, provided at its base with the projecting bars 0 d. and block 6, secured on the side of said receptacle and forming, in conjunction with the bar 0, a horizontal bearingbar, f, located in said horizontal bearing, and a pivoted lever for forcing said barf outwardly and inwardly in said horizontal bearing, substantially as set forth.
2. In a bag-holder,the receptacle A, having rigidly attached at its lower edges projecting cross-bars c d, a block attached above one of said cross-bars, and provided with an inclined lower edge, the sliding bar f, with inclined upper edge, pivoted lever B, adapted to abut against said sliding bar, and means for holding said lever against the sliding bar,the parts being combined and organized substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED R. HILL.
