' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALLACE B. EMMONS, or PETTISVILIQE, "OHIO."
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,571, dated March 31, 1885.
Application filed January 8, 1885. No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALLACE B. EMMONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pettisville, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Myinvention relates to a bag-holder adapted to support grain-bags and other bags while the same are being filled, and it has for its object to provide a device of this character which shall combine simplicity'and durability of construction with effectiveness in operation, and to provide a bag-holder which may be manufactured and supplied at a slight cost.-
With these ends in view the invention consists in the combination, with a suitable upright having a supporting and distending frame at its upper end, of a locking-bar and a lever for operating the same.
The invention further consists in the details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bag and bag-holder, the latter constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line .70 m of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4is adetail view in perspective of the bag support or frame.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, A represents a suitable base, at one end of which is provided an upright or standard, B. The said upright B might be secured directly to the floor, but is preferably provided with a permanent base, as shown, so that it can be moved as circumstances may require.
At the upper end of the upright or standard B is tenoned, in the front face thereof, a triangular supporting-frame, C,the inner faces of the sides of which are beveled or inclined inwardly, as shown at a, and attached to the lower side of the front strip of said frame is a bar, a, which projects beyond said strip and serves to aid in the better support of the bag.
Pivoted centrally between the inner ends of the frame 0 is alocking-bar, D, having on its adapted to engage the bag when the locking bar is locked by the lever, as shown in Fig. 3. E represents a lever, which is pivoted be tween the divided end of the upright or stand ard B, said lever having a cam-face, cl, at its outer end, which cam-face is adapted to engage the seat I) of the locking-bar.
The operation is as follows: placed upon the triangular frame 0, the corners of the same serving to support the front side of the bag and distend the mouth of the same. The rear portion of the bag is inserted behind the locking-bar, and the spur or spud c on the same engages the bag and sup ports the rear end of the same. The lever is then moved upwardly, throwing its cam-face down upon the seat of the locking-bar and in rear of the same, and serves to hold said locking-bar against the upright or standard B, thus firmly and securely holding the bag in position on the front side and between the locking-bar and supportingstandard.
To remove the bag after it has been filled, the rear end of the lever is forced downward ly, thus releasing the locking-bar and allowing the bag to be removed.
It will be seen that the bag-holder herein before described is cheap and simple in its construction, easily operated, and that it is thoroughly efficient and strong and. durable.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a bag-holder, the combination, with an upright having a triangular supporting frame at its upper end, of a pivoted lockingbar having a spur, c, and a pivoted lever.
2. In a bagholder, the combination, with an upright having a triangular supportingframe at its upper end provided with a strip or bar, a, of a pivotedlocking-bar and a pivoted lever.
3. The herein described bag-holder, com- The bag is prising in its eonsbrucbionan upright orstand- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as ard, a suppox ting frame having inclined inmy own'l have hereto affixed my eig'nature in ner faces, a locking-bar pivoted within said presence of two witnesses.
