IRoNlNc-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,363, dated April 21, 1885.
V Application sied June 12, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE C. HOUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which 1o it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. i5 Figure I of the drawings is a side view of my device7 and Fig. 2 isa bottom view of the same.
rIhis invention has relation to folding ironing-tables or other tables of that class which 2O is provided with cross-legs; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement o f parts forming the holding device, wherebythe legs are held to their adjustment, substantially as specified.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the board of an ironing-table, and B the legs which are pivoted thereto, and provided with the 'cross-legs O, which are pivoted to the legs B at D. The upper ends of 3o the legs O are connected to veach other by a transverse catch-bar, E, which is designed to engage the rack of the holder attachment F.
The holding attachment consists of a longitudinal bar, Gr, having at one end a series of 5 5 notches or rack formation, as indicated at H, these notches being of sufficient size to readily engage the transverse bar E of the crosslegs. The bar Gis secured to the under side of the board A by means of screws, as at k k.
When in position upon the board A, the 4o rack-notches are turned downward, and along the under surface of the rack-bar G extends a sliding lock-bar, L, which is longitudinally slotted, as shown atm, to engage guide-screws s, which are usually provided with suitable washers, w. rIhe s lidgb'ar L is provided with a lateral knob or proj ection, a, whereby it may .be readily manipulated.
When the cross-legs have been adjusted to support the board at the'height required, the 5o slide-bar is pushed forward under the notches of the rack-bar, closing the same and locking the transverse bar E of the cross-legs in the notch with which it is engaged, so that said legs are held to their adjustment and to the table in a secure manner. When it is desi-red to readjust the cross-legs, the locking-slide is drawn back, so that the notches are opened, and the transverse bar of the cross-legsr can be easily removed from one notch to another'.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1S,- t
In a folding cross-leg table, the longitudinal bar G, provided with the notches, as shown, and having the guide-screws s, and the slotted lock-bar L, engaging the guide-screws and having a lateral knob or proj ection, whereby it may be moved to close said notches or to open the same, in combination with a transverse catch- 7o bar connecting the upper ends of the crosslegs, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
HORACE O. HOUGII.
