IRONING TABLE.
No. 431,530. Patented July 1, 1890 IIIIIIIIIH Uml ummm mmm "Iliff- UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
FRANK ROOK, OF PLATTSBURG, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TWO-THIRDS 'IO HENRY E. BARNARD AND WILLIAM L. PATTISSON, OF SAME PLACE.
IRO N'lNG-TAB LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 431,530, dated July 1, 1890.
Application filed February 17, 1890. Serial No. 340,726. (No model.) l
To LZ'Z whom tm/Ly concern.-
Be 1t known that I, FRANK ROCK, a citizen of the Unlted States, residing at Plattsburg,
in the county of Clinton and State of New.
York, have invented a new and useful Inlprovement in Ironing-Tables, of which the following is so full, clear, and exact a description as will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to xo make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-' Figure lis a side elevation of my improved table. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section.
The object ofmy invention is to provide a table or ironing-board which may be raised or lowered to any desired elevation, and which maybe adjusted or readjusted and locked in 2o any desired position by the means more fully described and claimed hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates the top of the table or ironing-board. At either end of the board (or at least on two z 5 sides of the center of the board) are provided two projecting recessed blocks B B, having au opening O. Through one of these blocks extends a central perforation, through which extends a pin b, which registers with the perforation c in the tongue J, secured to one pair of the pivotal legs E. By this arrangement I am enabled to positively and permanently secure one pair of the pivotal legs at their upper ends to the under side of the table. At
' 35 the same time the position may be adjusted to determine the elevation of the table. The other block opposite is provided with a recess and a projecting lip G, directly opposite which is secured a bolt and casing H. The
4o bolt is a longitudinal spring-bolt, which is to be inserted through the horizontal perforations CZ el in tongue .I at the upper end of the second pair of the pivotal legs. The casing containing the bolt is provided with an L- shaped slot. rI-hrough this slot moves the thumb-piece e, which is secured to the bolt and extends at right angles to it, so that the bolt may be operated by this pin, and it may be withdrawn and locked in open position by turning the bolt part way round and pressing 5o the pin e into the depression f in the outer end of the L-shaped slot. The bolt is actuated normally by the spring in the casing.
From the foregoing it will be seen that it is the work of but a moment to adj ust the table to any desired height to suit the purpose for which it is to be used, and it will take even less time tol withdraw the spring-bolt and fold the pivoted legs, making the table into a compact article to be laid away in a very 6o small space at some convenient spot.
What I desire to secure by Letters Patent and what I therefore claim is- An adjustable table hav-in folding legs and pivotal tongues at the upper ends of the legs, said tongues being perforated one vertically and the other horizontally, in combination with recessed blocks to receive the perforated tongues and a vertical pin for the vertical perforated tongue and block, a hori- 7o Zontal spring-bolt for the horizontally-perforated tongue, all constructed and combined to operate substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK ROCK.
