Description
NITED STATES PATENT Orrics.
DANIEL GARROL WOODWARD, OF WESTRANDOLPH, VERMONT.
lRONlNG-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,821, dated December 21, 1886.
Application filed November 14,1885. Serial No. 182,838. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that, I, DANIEL CARROL W001)- WARD, of West Randolph, in the county of Orange and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Ta bles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is an inverted plan View. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
This invention pertains to improvements in ironing boards or tables; and it consists of the combination of parts, including their construction, substantially as hereinafter set forth, and
pointed out in the claim.
The board A, forming the table-top, is tapered and round at one end, and near the middle thereof are secured on the under surface two or more pairs of hooks, a. The frame B, formed of the'legs b and cross-pieces c d, is provided with eyes 6, which may be received in either of the pairs of hooks a,projecting from the under surface of the table-t0p The top of the frame B is beveled, so that it may be inclined at an angle, as shown in Fig. 2. Abar, 0, having at one end a hook, f, is provided with a truss-rod, g, and with a bridge-piece, h, over which the truss-rod g is stretched. The hook f engages an eye, i, in the under surface of the table-top A, and the bar 0 extends between the legs of the frame B, under the cross-bar d, and has an aperture for receiving a dowel-pin, J, projecting downward from the middle of the cross-bar (1, so that when the table is in position for use the bar 0 will be retained in its place in the frame B by the dowel-pin J.
When it is desired to reduce the height of the ironing-table, the eyes 6 in the upper end of the frame B are moved forward to the pair of hooks a nearest the narrower end of the tabletop.
To the under surface of the table-top A are secured spiral springs 70, the free ends of the springs being provided with hooks l, for engaging the ironing-cloth or the covering of the ironingtable. The springs being put under tension, the ironing-cloth is drawn tightly over the top of the table;
The table-top A is provided with a drawer,
m, for containing the various articles required about the ironing-table. The wider end of the table-top has a cleat, n, extending across 1t, for strengthening it and preventing it from warping. A screw-eye, o, is inserted in the cleat n, and is used for hanging up the ironingtable after it is folded together. is folded by removing the bar 0 from the dowel-pin J, folding theframe B forward upon the under side of the table-top, then folding the bar 0 down upon the frame B.
By my improved construction the end of the table-top is supported free from all obstruction, and maybe used in ironing such articles as require the introduction into them of an ironing-board.
The bar 0, although very light, is rendered rigid by the truss-rod g.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ironing-table In an ironing-table, a table top or board 7 provided on its under surface with one or more pairs of hooks, a, a frame, B, composed of legs I) and cross-pieces c d, and provided with eyes 6 and a dowel-pin, J, and the bar 0, having hook f connecting with eye 2' at the one end of the table or board, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
DANIEL O. WOODWARD.
