To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that l, VARREN E. W'ARNER, ofthe city of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented new and useful linprovenientsin Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class` ofv door-hangers which are einployed for supporting sliding doors from the top, and which consists of rollers or wheels which run on horizontal rails, and on which the door is supported by suitable bearings.
The object of my invention is to so construct the hanger that it can be easily applied to the upper edge of the door after the hanger has been placed upon the rai1s,vand without requiring any cutting of the door or fitting to secure it in place, and that it is simple in construction. i
My invention consists, to this end, ofthe partienlar construction of the hanger, which will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

K represents the vertical plate or frame of the hanger, which supports the rider-bar andv frictionroller. The plate K is provided at its lower edge with inclined ledges or ribs 7c, which project from opposite sides of the plate, and which are adaptedto engage between the ears c of the base-plate D.
L represents the rider-bar, which rests on the axle c between the'rollers C C.
M represents a horizontal lever, pivoted at its center to the vertical frame or plate K, and at one end to the downwardly-proj ecting arm Z of the rider-bar L. The opposite end of the lever M is provided with a slotted jaw, m, in which is arranged a screw-nut, n.
o represents an inclined slotted lug formed at the front end ot' the frame K, and l is a screw bolt which extends from the lug 0 through the screw-nut n, and engages with its upper end in a threaded socket, q, formed on the arm l of the rider-bar. The screw-bolt P is provided with a right and left hand screwthread, p p2, which engages, respectively,with the screw-nut n and threaded socket q. The
screw-bolt Pis provided with anotched head, 1^, and a collar, r', and the jaws of the lug 0 straddle the bolt P between the head 1' and collar z. By this means the bolt P is prevented from moving longitudinally in thelug o, but is free to turn therein. The screw-nnt n is confined between t-he slotted jaw m of the lever M by iiat grooves n', formed on opposite sides of the nut. The nut is prevented from turning in thejaw m by the flat sides of the nut n bearing against the sides of the jaw. Byturning the screw-bolt Pin one or the other direction the lever M is caused to swing on its central pivot and the rider-bar is adjusted. The portion of the door to which the hanger is attached can thus be readily raised or lowered, as may be necessary, to level or adjust the door. The hanger may be provided with any other suitable adjusting device, whereby the door can be adjusted and leveled. The plate K is provided Wit-havertical pin or spindle, s, on which is mounted afriction-roller,S. The roller S is so arranged as to run between Vthe rails B B and retain the wheels C C upon the rails.
In applying my improved hanger to the upper edge of a door the horizontal base-plate D is removed from the hanger-frame, and is firmly secured to the top of the door by the screws d. The hanger is inserted through an opening formed in the rails, so that the rollers willrest upon the rails, and the frame 0r plate K will be suspended below the rails. The door,with the plate D fastened thereto, is-then arranged in place, and the hanger-frame is secured to the base-plate by sliding the base ofthe plate K in the groove or recess f of the horizontal plate D until the inclined ribs 7c engage under the projecting lugs (c and the rear end ofthe plate Kcomes in contact with the stop h. The bolt J is then inserted in the groove z', in the front end of the plate, and engaged with the screw-thread j until the threaded end of the bolt bears against a lng,j,lformed on the front of the plate K, whereby the latter is firmly fastened to the horizontal base-plate and the hanger secured to the door.
By forming the horizontal base-plate in a separate piece from the hanger-frame the hanger can be readily and easily secured to the door after the hanger has been placed in position upon the rails.
By constructing the base-plate asdescribed the latter can be readily and cheaply made of malleable or cast iron, and is secured to the upper edge of the door without cutting the door or requiring any fitting to secure it in place.
I am aware of the pending application of Obadiah Seely, tiled August 2, 1884, SerialvNo. 139,475, and do not desire to claim, the improvements in the rider-bar, its adjusting device, and friction-roller claimed therein.
l I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, in a door-hanger, of a base-plate, D, provided with projecting lugs e', having overlapping inner faces, a stop, h, a longitudinal groove, t', provided with ascrewthread, j, and a screw, J, substantially as set forth.
2. In a door-hanger, the combination, with the base-plate D, provided with lugs e, a central longitudinal groove, f, stop lz, and recess i, provided with a screw-thread, j, of a plate, K, provided with ribs 7c, and a screw, J, eugaging in the screw-thread of lthe groove i an bearing against the plate K, substantially as set forth.
