Like letters of reference mark like parts in all the figures.
My invention has forits object to permit ready access to the interior of the waste-well in bath-tubs; and to this end it consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, which will be first fully described hereinafter, and then specifically pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A is the bottom of the bathtub; B, the waste-well; G, the plate covering the waste-well, and D the stopper for closing the opening through the plate 0, said opening being formed by drawing out or flanging the metal of said plate, or casting a flange, c, as part thereof. The bottom 0 of said flanged opening is provided with grating 0'. The stopper D is provided with a suit able ring, (I, for lifting it. The waste-we1l B consists of sides 2). bottom I), and flanges b and is provided with anipple, b, for the proper 5 attachment of a waste-pipe, 11*.
The bottom No model.)
A of the bath-tub rests on the flanges b of the wastewell, and has soldered or otherwise se cured to it in a perforation or opening which comes over the waste-well a double-flanged ring, ct a at. The plate 0 is secured to the flange a of said ring by screws to or other equivalent removable fastenings, a ring of packing, a, being inserted between the flange a and plate 0 to make a tight joint.
Should it be desired at any time to have ac- 5 cess to the waste-well for cleansing or other purposes, it is only necessary to remove the screws to, take out the ring a and plate G, and the interior is fully exposed to view, to remove any obstruction to the free flow of water.
The device is adapted for attachment in tubs of zinc, iron, or stone, the bottoms in iron and stone tubs being rabbeted out to receive the flange a, if desired.
, Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A bath-tub, in combination with a well, B, having a cover, 0, a stopper, D, the flanged rim a a a, and packing a as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
