  • Foundation garments which are made up from a back panel and a front panel, including a pair of crossed webs of material extensible in at least one direction, stitched to the side edges of the back panel and interconnected by a line of stitching.
  • the invention provides a garment having a front panel comprising crossed webs of extensible material and a rear panel including a pair of preferably extensible crossed webs which are attached at their upper ends to the side edges of the front panel at the waist, their lower edges being attached to each other at the lower rear hem of the garment below the buttocks of the wearer, and their upper edges being attached to each other toward the small of the back of the wearer.
  • Preferred forms of the garment include two gussets of extensible material extending from just below the waist of the wearer to the lower hem of the garment to which the lower free side portions of the front and rear crossed webs are attached. These gussets may curve upwards from the sides towards the front of the garment.
  • All the crossed webs of the garment may be made up of one or more pieces of material stitched together.
  • a waist band at the back of the garment may be formed by hemming the upper edges of the webs forming the rear panel and reinforcing them by strips of extensible material attached to the side edges of the front panel and to each other at the small of the back of the wearer.

  • the rear panel like the front panel is broader at the top than at the bottom.
  • Gussets 8 and 9 extend from just below the waist to the hemmed lower edge of the garment of which they form part.
  • the lower hem line of the gussets curves upwardly towards the front (as shown in FIG. 1) to meet the lower edges of the crossed webs 1 and 2 of the front panel.
  • Stitching between the panels and gussets may be of open form, extensible and decorative.
  • a girdle comprising a front panel, a back panel and :two gussets, said panels being each made up from a pair of crossed webs and being joined at their upper side edges, said panels being narrower at their bottoms than at their tops and having their lower edges connected by the gussets, the webs of the said front panel being joined to each other upon the central medial line of the front of the girdle, and the webs of the back panel being joined to each other along their lower hem and at a point at the center of the back of the girdle.
  • a girdle according to claim 1 wherein the lower edges of the gussets and the lower edges of the front panel are aligned and upwardly flared towards the central medial line of the front of the girdle.
  • a girdle according to claim 1 in which said panels and gussets are joined by extensible stitching.
