g FRED N/EDERMANM BY ATFOENEY Patented Nov. 20, 1951 GIRDLE OR THE LIKE Fred Niedermann, Rockville Centre, N. Y., assignor to Mastercraft Foundations, Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application September 30,1947; Serial No. 777,025
3 Claims.
'f This invention is a new and improved elastic girdle or the like, and is applicable to any garment having a girdle portion.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a girdle or the like of light weight construction capable of doing the job of a relatively heavy weight girdle.
It is a further object of the present invention to impart to the garment a controlling feature inthe abdomen and buttocks by restricting the stretch in portions of the garment through inverting certain of the elastic panels thereat.
It is a still further object of the present invention-to provide a girdle or like garment having restrictive sections where they are most needed for body control.
Another-object of the present invention is to assemble into a garment individually stitched layers 'of power net material, that is, knitted or woven material wherein the stretch is restricted in or limited to one direction.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a girdle wherein the pockets in which the stays fit are made of Lastex material so as to permit complete freedom of movements of the pockets when the garment is worn.
Other objects and advantages will be in part obvious from the annexed drawing and in part hereinafter indicated in connection therewith by the following analysis of this invention.
This invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of parts and in the unique relations of the members and in the relative proportioning and disposition thereof; all as more completely outlined herein.
To enable others skilled in the art so fully to comprehend the underlying features thereof that they may embody the same by the modifications in structureand relation contemplated by this invention, a drawing depicting a certain form of the invention has been annexed as a part of this disclosure, and in such drawing, like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout all the views,of which:
Fig. 1 is a frontelevation of a garment according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a view of the garment turned inside out to better show the interior of the front portion thereof.
Fig. 4 is a view of the garment similar to Fig. 3, to better show the interior of the back portion thereof.
Reference now will be made more particularly thickness. shorter reinforcing panels 20 defined by the free and 4 show the garment in inside-out position, disclosing the interior of the garment and the disposition of the panels hereinafter described with reference thereto. The garment comprises generally of a front panel l0 connected to a rear panel II by the side vertical seams l2, l3 reinforced by the vertical elastic strips l4, l5, respectively, the said vertical strips being in turn stitched to the said panels by the lines of stitching l6, II, respectively. At the upper portion of strip hi, there is provided the usual flexible bone or stay insert (not seen) located in a pocket formed by strip l4 and a strip of fabric |8. On either side of the vertical medial line of the garment and disposed over the front panel is a reinforcing panel is defined by the stitches l9a, |9b, by which these panels are secured to front panel Ill and the unstitched edge I90. As clearly seen in Fig. 3, reinforcing panels l9 do not entirelycover the front panel In, but are short of the vertical medial line and the top of the garment, leaving an area on both sides of this vertical medial line unreinforced by panels I9, and the side areas A unreinforced or of single Disposed over panels I9 are the edge 20b and the stitches 2041, 20c by which together with stitching 20c panels 20 are secured to the panels l9 and Hi. Panels 20 are disposed to the left and right respectively of the vertical medial line of the garment, and are preferably somewhat narrower than panels I9 and are located nearer the top than the bottom of the garment. overlying the vertical medial line of the garment (where, so far, there is only one thickness of material, namely, that of front panel l0), and overlying the seams or stitching H31) and 20b of panels I9, 20, is a centrally reinforcing panel 2| which extends the length of the front side of the garment and which is defined by the stitching 2 la, 2 lb, 2 la, and by which it is secured to the panels, 20, i9 and I0. Center panel 2| preferably is provided with an intermediate portion having inwardly directed arouate sides defined by the portions 2 lb of stitching 2|b,"the upper tapering end defined by the portions 2| b of stitching Zlb, and the lower tapering end defined by the portion 2|b of stitching Zlb.
The upper tapering end preferably is wider than the lower tapering end of panel 2|. Overlying and secured with panels 2|, 20, I9 and H1, is the inner, substantially diamond-shaped reinforcing panel 22 defined by the stitching 22a, 22b, 220,
to the drawing, bearing in mind that Figs. 3 22d. Inner panel 22 extends across substantially the entire width of front panel HI and is much closer to the top than the bottom of the garment.
Thus, upper-side areas A have a single thickness of material (front panel l); upper center area B has a double thickness of material (front panel l0 and upper center panel 2|) in which area B extend the parts of the edge portions 190 of panels; an'dlowerarea Canasta douhle thickness of material in which area cextendthe 'lower parts of the edge portions I90 of panels IS. The abdominal area of the garment bounded bythe stitching 22a, 22b, 22c, 22d has its intermediate or central portion D comprised of three "thick nesses of material (front panel rlllrzcenter manel 2| and inner panel 22), inwJhich=area;D-.:extend intermediate parts of the edge portions ofpanels l9 and 20 and its lateral portions Emcrnprisedof four thickness of material, namely, front panel l0, inner panel 22, and intermediate panels Hand 20.
