Cl. 2234p) This invention relates generally to an improved form assembly of the type adapted to support hosiery positioned thereon while the shape of the hosiery is set in a steam cabinet or the like and more particularly to a hosiery form assembly having improved form supporting means whereby the forms may be easily positioned in a convenient location for stripping and clothing the forms when removed from the cabinet.
Hosiery treating cabinets are presently available which are provided with a plurality of vertically disposed hosiery forms that are movable into and out or" the cabinet. The forms are positioned close together on a carriage which moves into and out of the cabinet. The forms are pivotally supported at their lower ends whereby the endmost form may be swung about a vertical axis and away from the other forms to provide more space and thereby facilitate stripping the treated hosiery oil of the forms and then clothing the forms with untreated hosiery. Although the forms are mounted to swing from side to side, they always remain in substantially a vertical position and since the forms are usually quite long, it is troublesome and awkward to strip and clothe the forms.
With the foregoing in mind, it is the primary object of the present invention to provide an improved hosiery form assembly for use with a treating cabinet of the type described above wherein each form is supported to swing about a horizontal axis from its normally vertical position to thereby lower the form and position the form in a convenient position for stripping and clothing the same.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved hosiery form assembly in which each form may be swung from a vertical position and to provide means to stop the swinging motion of the format any angle'which is most convenient for stripping and clothing the form.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved mounting for hosiery forms of the type described and which improved mounting may be easily and economically added to existing hosiery treating equipment.
It is a more specific object of the present invention to provide an improved mounting for hosiery forms of the type described which includes a support bracket which is pivotally mounted at one end for swinging movement about a vertical axis, means pivotally connecting the lower end of the form to the other end of the support bracket to provide swinging movement of the form about a horizontal axis and means carried by the support bracket for limiting the swinging movement of the form about the horizontal axis.
Some of the objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which-- FIGURE 1 is a fragmentary plan view showing a plurality of hosiery forms supported on a carriage which is movable into and out of a conventional hosiery treating steam cabinet, not shown;
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view taken substantially along line 22 in FIGURE 1 and showing the hosiery form positioned in elevation;
PEGURE 3 is a greatly enlarged fragmentary elevation of the lower portion of the hosiery form and illustrating the manner in which it is pivotally connected to the support bracket;

Referring to FIGURE 1, there is shown one end of a carriage lit which is provided with heels 11 mounted for longitudinal rolling movement along trackways 12 which lead into a conventional hosiery treating cabinet, not shown. A pair of vertically spaced support plates 13 and are suitably supported on the carriage it; and pivotally support the inner ends of swingable support brackets, broadly indicated at 2%. The support brackets 29 are mounted to swing about a vertical axis and their swinging movement is limited by stop members 19 carried on the carriage ill. Since all of the swingable hosiery form support brackets 2d are identical, only one of the brackets will be described in detail.
The inner end of the support bracket 2% is bifurcated to provide upper and lower arms 21 and 22 having respective pivot pins 23 and 24 suitably secured on their free ends. The pivot pins 23 and 24 extend downwardly from the arms 21 and 22 and slidably engage holes in the respective support plates 13 and 14-. The lower outer edge of the support bracket 20 is provided with a laterally projecting ledge 2s. A boarding form Ed is normally disposed in substantially a vertical position (FIGURE 2) and is shaped to conform to the hosiery positioned thereon. The lower end of the hosiery form 39 is sandwiched between a pair of reinforcing plates 32 and .33 which conform to the configuration of the lower part of the hosiery form 3% and are attached thereto in a manner later described.
The plates 32 and 33 and the lower end of the boarding form 39 are shaped to define a flat bottom edge 34,
a curved portion 35 and an outer angularly disposed edgeagainst one face of the plate 32 by screws 46 which penetrate the plate members 32., 33 and the boarding form 30 and their ends are threaded into the pivot member 42 (FIGURE 6). The sturdy construction of the pivot means at the lower end of the form 39 insures a long useful life of the form and prevents sidewise movement of the form, relative to the support bracket 20.
it is preferred that the plate members 32, 33 be fixedly secured to opposite sides of the lower end of the boarding form 36 by rivets 43 (FIGURES 3 and 7) which penetrate the plates 32, 33 and the hosiery form St? to secure these parts together in the manner indicated in FIGURE 7. However, the plate members 32, 33 may be held against opposite sides of the hosiery form fat) by other suitable means. For example, as shown in FIGURE 8, the lower end of the hosiery form 30 may have suitable holes t? drilled therein and the plates 32, 33 may be dimpled and spot welded together in the holes 51h. Also, the plates 32, 33 may be secured to the hosiery form 36 in the manner indicated in FIGURE 9 wherein the lower end of the boarding form 3!) is provided with openings or holes 51 in which suitable plugs 52 may be inserted and the plates 32., 33 spot welded to the inserted plugs 52.
With the hosiery form 3t? positioned in its normal vertical position, as shown in FIGURE 2, the weight of the form 3% will tend to turn the same in a clockwise direction so that the lower edge 34 of the form 3%) will be resting on the ledge 26 of the swingable support bracket 20. Thus, the hosiery forms 30 will be positioned so that the carriage lid may be moved into and out of the steam cabinet easily. The hosiery forms will remain in this substantially vertical position until they are mann ally swung to another position. When the carriage lit) is moved out of the steam cabinet, an operator may move the form 39 to the dotted line position indicated at A in FIGURE 2 so that the angular edge 36 will rest upon the outer portion of the ledge 26 of the swingable support bracket 2%. i
If it is desired to position the form 30 at a sharper angle, such as the position indicated at B in FIGURE 2, a suitable stop member 661 (FZGURES 3-5) may be secured to the support bracket and on the ledge 26. The stop member so may be secured to the support bracket 24 in any suitable manner such as by screws 61 which penetrate the stop member on and are threadably embedded in the support bracket 20. It will be noted that the stop member 60 is substantially triangular and the lower edge engages the upper edge of the ledge 26 (FIG- URE 3). The stop member 60 is provided with an angularly disposed upper edge 62 which engages the edge 36 of the form 3%) when the form is swung outwardly or counterclockwise from the solid line position shown in FIGURE 2. Thus, the form 36 may be stopped in the dotted line position indicated at B in FIGURE 2 Orin any other desired angular position by utilizing other stop members having an upper edge cut at the desired angle.
In operation, the carriage 1b is moved out of the treating cabinet upon completion of the treatment to the hose on the forms. Then, the operator will swing the first support bracket Ztl at one side of the carriage about a vertical axis to position the same away from the other support brackets and then the operator will swing the form outwardly about a horizontal axis and from the vertical position to either of the angular positions A or B (FIG- URE 2), depending upon Whether or not a stop member 60 is in place. With the form positioned at an angle toward the operator, treated hose on the form 30 may be easily stripped therefrom and an untreated hose easily positioned on the same. The operator will then push the boarding form 3% inwardly and it will stop in its normal position with the lower edge 34 in engagement with the ledge 26 of the support bracket 20.
In the improved hosiery form and mounting for the same disclosed in the present application, the boarding 4 form may be swung about a vertical axis as well as about a horizontal axis to position the same for convenient removal and insertion of a hose onto the form. Also, the angle at which the boarding form rests when swung outwardly about its horizontal axis may be varied as desired.
In the drawings and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention and, although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being defined in the claims.
We claim:
1. An improved garment form assembly comprising a plurality of forms shaped to receive hosiery and the like, said forms being normally disposed substantially vertically in contiguous relation to each other and having angularly disposed edges at their lower end portions, a plurality of brackets corresponding in number to said hosiery forms, said brackets each being elongate and generally platelike in form and being of greater height than width, means supporting corresponding common ends of said brackets for independent pivotal movement of each of said brackets about a vertical axis, means carried by said brackets pivotally connecting said lower end portions of said forms to said brackets for independent pivotal movement of each of said forms about a horizontal axis, and stop means carried by said brackets for limiting the pivotal movement of each of said forms relative to its corresponding bracket, said stop means including a ledge integral with and extending outwardly from each of said brackets beneath said lower end portion of its corresponding form and adapted to be engaged by said angularly disposed edges of said form.
2. in a structure according to claim 1 wherein said stop means further includes, for each of said forms and its corresponding bracket, a substantially triangular stop member, and means for removably securing said stop member above said ledge to limit pivotal movement of said form relative to said bracket.
3. In a structure according to claim 1 wherein said means connecting said forms to said brackets includes, for each of said forms and its corresponding bracket, a pivot member having a reduced annular inner portion and an enlarged annular outer portion, said bracket having a hole in which the reduced annular portion of said pivot member is oscillatably mounted, said enlarged annular portion of said pivot member being in engagement with a side face of said bracket, and said form being secured to said reduced annular portion of said pivot member on the opposite side of said bracket from said enlarged annular portion.
4. An improved garment form assembly comprising a plurality of forms shaped to receive hosiery and the like, said forms being normally disposed substantially vertically in contiguous relation to each other, a plurality of brackets corresponding in number to said hosiery forms, said brackets each being elongate and generally platelike in form and each having a hole extending through a medial portion thereof, a plurality of pivot pins corresponding in number to said brackets and each having a reduced annular inner portion and an enlarged annular outer portion, each of said pivot pins having its longitudinal axis extending substantially horizontally with said reduced annular inner portion thereof oscillatably mounted in said hole within its corresponding bracket and with said enlarged annular outer portion thereof in engagement with a side face of said corresponding bracket, means supporting corresponding common ends of said brackets for independent pivotal movement of each of said brackets about a vertical axis, means connecting the lower end portions of said forms to said reduced annular portions of said pivot pins on the opposite sides of said brackets from said enlarged annular portions for independent pivotal movement of each of said forms about the longitudinal axis of its corresponding pivot pin, and stop means carried by said brackets for limiting the pivotal movement of each of said forms relative to its corresponding bracket.
5. In a structure according to claim 4 wherein said stop means comprises, for each of said forms and its corresponding bracket, a ledge extending outwardly from said bracket and positioned beneath the lower end portion of said form, and angularly disposed edges at the lower end portion of said form to engage said ledge and limit pivotal movement of said form relative to said bracket.
