DAVID BLOCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Toy;
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent N0. 306,464, dated October 14, 1884.
Application filed July 3, 188-1.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, Dlivrr) BLOCK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The ob'ect of m invention is to )rovide an' said trundle.
The accompanying drawing represents a perspective view of my improved toy trun' dle, showing at a glance the construction and operation of the same.
Ais the hoop or trundle. This is preferably made out of a band of sheet metal strength ened by a bead at each edge, as shown in the drawing. Upon the surface of the trundle are raised, by a suitable stamp or press, the letters of the alphabet, so that when the trundle is rolled upon sand or-snow, (or anything else suitable for the purpose,) and in rolling is pressed sufficiently against the surface upon which it is rolled, the letters will be impressed in a row in the path of the wheel or trundle.
Diametrically across the hoop A, at opposite edges thereof, are secured bars a, by which,
(N0 model.)
and by holes anda pin through the center of the said hoop and bars, it is attached to and mounted to revolve in the fork end I) of the usual handle B, by which similar toys are operated. I
Instead of the letters of the alphabet, other figures-such as outlines of animals, houses, &c.may be formed upon the hoop,and hoops made in sets, each having a difi'erent design, may be exchanged and replaced one for an other upon the same handle by simply removing the pin or bolt 0, in order to detach one hoop or trundle, and inserting it again for the attachment of another.
The figures on the surface of the band A are preferably raised figures, so as to form a deep impression in the path of the wheel'or band, while the face of the wheel adjacent to the figures smooths the path adjacent to the said depressions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A toy trundle consisting of aband or wheel, A, having letters or figures upon its surface, and adapted to be attached to a handle, B, for imprinting the said figures in the path of the said wheel, by the rolling of the latter, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 6th day of June, 1884 DAVID BLOCK.
