NITED STATES ATENT nmost AMOS HARTONG, OF JOLIET, ILLINOIS.
.EFECI FICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 305,517, dated September 23, 1884.
Application filed December 27, 1883. (No model.)
1'0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
, Be it known that I, AMos HARTONG, a-citizen of the United States of America, residing at J oliet, in the county of WVill and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Lamp-Brackets for Sewing- Machines, of which the following is a specifi cation, reference being had therein to the ac- I from the eyes a a companying drawings.
Figure l is a side elevation; Fig. 2, a side view of the adjustable clasp, and Fig. 3 an edge view of the lamp-shade.
This invention relates to certain improvements in lamp attachments for sewing-machines, and relates particularly to the means for supporting the lamp adjustably above the table of the sewing-machine,so that the sewingwork may readily pass under it, and for adjusting or holding the lampin any position to cast the light on the sewing-Work. 1
Referring to the drawings, H represents the overhanging arm of a sewing-machine, having an integral socket, S, on its side, for the reception of the shank v of the swinging arm a. The outer end of the arm a is provided with a vertical post, I, which passes through the eyes a a in which it may rotate. A collar and set-screw, z, prevents the removal of post The lower end of post P is provided with the horizontal shelf T, upon which to setthe lamp L. The upper end of post P is provided with the sleeve 0, having the set-screw c, to secure it to the post I, and is pierced with a socket for the reception of the stemt of the shade R. A set-screw, d, secures post P in the eyes a ai and holds the lamp-shelf T at any desired height from the machine-table. The lamp-shade R may be placed on as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be attached to stand vertically, as shown by the dotted lines. The center portion, B, may be removed when it is desired to attach the shade as shown in Fig. 1.
When it is desired to attach the arm ato an old machine not having the integral socket S, the clasp shown in Fig. 2 may be used to attach to the arm H. By the use of the lugs w x m and a slot in the part m of said clasp its diameter may be regulated to lit the arm of any machine.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
The combination of the arm H, clasp c011- sisting of the curvedarms m and W and setscrew m, the arm m having the integral socket S, provided with the lugs 00, and the arm m havin a slot for adjustment on said lugs, bracket a, ,having the eyes a a and set-screw (1, vertical post P, having the lamp-shelf T, collar and set-screw a, sleeve 0, and setscrew c, all adapted to operate as and for the purpose set forth.
AMOS uARrone.
