After 40 minutes a very definite anesthetic eff fect sets in. The intensity of electrical stimulation can be raised many times until pain reaction sets in. While the normal stimulus threshold is attained by the application of impulses of 0.2 ma. to *.3 ma., percutaneous treatment with procaine according to the present invention raises said threshold to about 2 ma, before pain sets in. The unbroken curve illustrated in FIG. shows said anesthesizing effect which subsided only very slowly, i.e. within 60 minutes.
