3 Claims.

This is a new application after abandonment of original application Serial No. 431,709, filed May 24, 1954, and allowed May 25, 1956.

This invention relates broadly to a shower cap, but more particularly to a novel suspension device for a shower cap whereby the latter may be conveniently suspended at a position to quickly drain and cause the drying of the cap after use.

Important objects and advantages of the invention are to provide a shower cap suspension device of the character described, which may be conveniently employed for hanging a shower cap in a position for quickly draining and drying the latter, which may be permanently attached to a shower cap already constructed as well as form a component part of a new cap structure, and which will in no way cause discomfort or inconvenience to the user.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a device of the class stated, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, durable and efficient in its use and comparatively economical in its manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts herein specifically described, but it is understood that changes in the form, proportions and details of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of a shower cap embodying a suspension device in accordance With the invention, and being partly in section.

FIGURE 2 is a similar view illustrating the embodiment of the invention in connection with a conventional type of bathing cap.

Referring in detail to the drawing 1 represents a ladys shower cap generally of the conventional type and constructed of any suitable water-proof material preferably plastic material.

The bottom edge of the cap 1 which forms the head opening of the latter is provided with a gathered hem 2. A continuous elastic band 3 is enclosed within the hem for the obvious purpose of drawing the latter against the head of the user.

The improved cap suspension device is attached to the shower cap 1 at the crest of the crown 4, which crest is strengthened by a reenforcing patch 5. The reenforcing patch is permanently secured to the cap by cementing, stitching, or in any other suitable manner to meet conditions found in practice.

A hanger hook 6 is attached to the shower cap 1 by means of a connecting strip 7 which is joined with the ice reenforcing patch 5. The hanger hook, the connecting strip, and the reenforcing patch are preferably constructed as an integral unit, whereby the suspension device may be attached to the shower cap by simply securing the reenforcing patch in position at the crest of the cap crown 4. All parts of the suspension device are preferably made of soft rubber but it will be apparent that same may be made of any other suitable material without departing from the principle of the invention.

The hanger hook 6 is round in transverse section, and while being pliant, is sufliciently rigid to retain its formation when supporting the negligible weight of a shower cap when the latter is suspended therefrom. The connecting strip 7 is flat and exceptionally flexible or limp, so that the hanger hook normally will drop by gravity against the crown of the cap in the manner clearly illustrated in FIGURE 2.

The disclosure of the invention shown in FIGURE 2, illustrates the application of the suspension device in connection with a conventional type of bathing cap 8, which is usually constructed of rubber and provided with a reenforced bottom edge 9.

It is evident that a shower or bathing cap equipped with the improved suspension device may be conveniently suspended from a shower curtain rod or other supporting element for draining and drying cap after use. Without such suspension device it is impossible to hang the used cap in a proper position to effectively drain and dry the latter.

It will here be noted that the caps 1 and 8 may be constructed in a manner allowing them to be inverted or turned inside out without any perceptible difference in appearance from conventional types of shower and bathing caps, whereby when the latter are Worn in public places the suspension devices may be concealed within the inverted caps. Due to the pliant, soft rubber construction of the hook 6, taken in connection with the limp dangling attachment of the hook by the connecting strip 7, the suspension device within the inverted cap will not create any discomfort or have any untoward effect on the user of the inverted cap.

The present invention provides a most eflicient device of its kind, which may be economically constructed and successfully employed for the purposes and in the manner herein set forth.

What I claim is:

1. An article of manufacture of the class described comprising, in combination, a bathing cap of flexible waterproof material including a crown, a reenforcing element having a permanent attachment with the cap at the crest of the crown of the cap, a hook member constructed of pliant material, and a flexible connecting element joining said hook member with said reenforcing element.

2. A shower cap of the class described, comprising, in combination, a cap crown constructed of flexible waterproof material, a hem formed at the bottom edge of said crown, a continuous elastic constriction band enclosed in said hem, a reenforcing element having a permanent attachment with the outer surface of said crown at the crest of the latter, a hook member constructed of pliant material, and a flexible connecting member formed integral with said hook and connecting said hook to the center of said reenforcing element.

A shower cap of the class described, comprising, in combination, a cap crown constructed of flexible Waterproof material, a gathered hem formed at the bottom edge of said crown, a continuous elastic constriction band enclosed in said hem, a reenforcing element of considerable area and having a permanent attachment with the outer surface of said crown at the crest of the latter, a hook member constructed of pliant material, and a flexible connecting member formed integral with said hook and connecting said hook to the center of said reenforcing element.
