CUFF-RETAINER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 302,992, dated August 5, 1884.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AGNES-Louisa FRANK- LIN, of Frankfort, in the county of Franklin and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved'Cuff-Retainer, of which thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient device for retaining cuffs in place upon the wrist; and it consists of a pointed stud attached to the sleeve-button, and capable of engaging the edge of the sleeve under which the cuff is worn.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cuff-retainer. Fig. 2 shows its position in the cuff-button. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of my cuff-retainer, and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 show the application of my-cuff-retainer to a lever cnffbutton.

My improved cuff-retainer may be attached to the cuff-button permanently, or it may be secured to a plate, which may be applied to and removed from the cuff-button.

\Vhen my improved cuifretainer is attached permanently to the cufi'-button, the pointed pin Awill be soldered upon the inner or outer part of the button; or it may be attached at. right angles to a plate, B, as shown in'Fig. 1, which is afterward soldered to the inner or outer part of the button. In the case of a separable button, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the plate B will be soldered to the inner part of the button; butin the case of the lever button, as shown in Fig. 6, the plate will be soldered to the outer form of the button.

In Figs. 4 and5 I have shown a form of cuffretainer adapted to a lever cuff-button, the slot a being for the purpose of receiving the inner end of the shank of the button. In some cases I may form the retainer of a loop of wire, having a pin, A, projecting at right angles therefrom, as shown in Fig. 3. The pointed pin A is arranged parallelwith the shank D of the button 0, and is inserted in the outer sleeve, E, and also in the cuff as the shank of the button is passed into the button-hole of the cuff. In the case of the separable button, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the pin is inserted from within the cuff. In the case of the leverbutton, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the pin A is inserted from the exterior of the cuff.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with a cuff-button, of a retaining-pin, A, arranged parallel withthe shank of the button, as specified.

2. A cuff-retainer for application to a cuffbutton, consisting of the plate B, having a pointed pin, A, projecting therefrom at right angles. as herein specified.

3. The combination, with the cuff-button O, of the plate B, provided with a pointed pin projecting therefrom at right angles, as specified.
