(Cl. 24-247) Independently of its connecting strap, the clip of a sock or stocking suspender or the like includes on the one hand a loop the opening of which is narrowed in at its lower end and on the other end the actual clip made generally of rubber or the like material and including a round-headed stud adapted to engage said opening in the loop and to provide for the securing of the turnover of the sock or stocking.

I In a number of such arrangements, the clipflis .connected with the metal fitting of the loop through a mechanical crimping or clamping, which often leads to a tearing of said clip. In some other cases, the clip is secured to the loop by a flanged arrangement.

My invention has for its object a novel design of the loop and of the associated clip and of the mounting of said parts; to this end, I provide a loop of plastic material and within its thickness is formed a transversely extending recess inside which is fitted a bar carried at the upper end of the clip, which latter is made of rubber, plastic material or the like and includes the conventional round headed stud adapted to engage the opening in said loop.

Said recess opens vertically into a slot formed within the thickness of the loop so as to allow the introduction into the recess of the bar carried by the clip. The loop is suspended in the conventional manner through the agency of an elastic strap and said strap may engage a laterally open hook formed at the upper end of the loop or the underside of a small bar rigid with said upper end.

According to a particular embodiment of my invention, the portion of the loop located above the recess therein includes two parts while the elastic strap cooperates, through the traction exerted on it in its operative position so as to hold the bar of the clip fast inside its recess, in clamping against each other the two upper parts of the loop.

My invention will be readily understood through a reading of the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawings illustrating, by way of example and by no means in a limiting sense, a few embodiments of a suspender clip incorporating my invention. In said drawings:

FIGS. 1 and 2 are respectively front and side views of the actual clip.

FIGS. 3 and 4 show the loop respectively in front elevational view and in sectional view through line 4-4 of FIG. 3.

FIGS. 5 and 6 are respectively front elevational and sectional views through line 6-6 of FIG. 5 of a part 01 we suspender constituted by the assembly of the clip and loop illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 4.

FIGS. 7 and 8 are respectively a front elevational view and a sectional view through line 88 of FIG. 7 of a modification of a portion of the loop.

FIGS. 9 and 10 are respectively a front elevational view and a sectional view through line 10--10 of FIG. 9 of a part of a suspender incorporating a loop according to FIGS. 7 and 8.

Turning to FIGS. 1 and 2, the suspender clip 2 is constituted by a body of rubber or plastic materialincluding the conventional round-headed stud 3 project ing to the front thereof and a transverse bar 4 at its upper end, which stud 3 and bar 4 are molded together with the body of the clip or are fitted on the latter. Such a clip may be used with any of the loops illustratexl in FIGS. 3 to 14. p

In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 3 to 6, the loop 5 is provided as well known per se with an opening 6 tapering downwardly so as to provide for the clamping of the stud 3 and of the stocking therebetween; said loop is provided with a transverse slot in its upper section in a plane parallel to its outer surfaces, so as to form to either side of said slot two half-sections 7a and 7b. The upper part of the loop 5 is provided furthermore with a recess 9 extending laterally to either side of the slot and with two ports 12 and 11 extending across the loop and said slot respectively above and below said recess.

The suspender is assembled in the manner illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6, as provided by introducing the upper transverse bar 4 on the clip 2 by sliding the bar down through the slot so it lies disposed inside the recess 9 thus formed between the inner surfaces facing each other of the two upper half-sections 7a, 7b of the loop 5, the lower port 10 allowing the upper section of the clip 2 to be engaged in a position allowing the desired introduction of its bar 4 through the slot into the recess 9.

The upper port 12 in the loop provides, as illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6, a passage for the strap 8 of the suspender, the tensioning of the said strap ensuring not only the suspension required, but also, and as a consequence of the traction exerted on it, the application against each other of the two-half-sections 7a, 7b of the loop, which leads consequently to a clamping inside the recess 9 of the upper bar 4 of the clip 2.

The loop 13 illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8 differs from that described hereinabove only by the fact that the recess 14 is formed between the upper half-sections 15a, 15b underneath the two

16 and 17. In this case, the suspender is mounted in the manner disclosed in FIGS. 9 and 10. The upper bar 4 of the clip 2 engages, as precedingly, the recess 14 in the loop 13 and the two half-sections 15a and 1519 are then hold fast against each other so as to ensure the secure holding of the bar inside the recess as provided by the traction exerted by the actual suspender strap *8; said strap extends, as a matter of fact, not only through the lower port 16 so as to pass over the small bridge extending between the

16 and 17 but also through the upper port 17 and between the upper parts of the two half-sections 15c, 15d.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 11 and 12, the recess 14 is formed, as in the last-mentioned embodiment, at the lower end of the two half-sections 15a, 15b of the loop, which is also provided with a lower port 16, while the upper port 17 passes in contradistinction only through the half-section 15b on the left-hand side of FIG. 12. In registry with said upper port 17, the half section on the right-hand side is provided with a small transverse bar 20, the middle portion of which is cut out. The left-hand half-section 15b extends above its upper port so as to form a further small bar 21 the medial portion of which has also been removed.
