SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,496, dated May 13, 1884.
Application led January 21,1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE lV. PERO, of West New Brighton, in the county ofRichinond and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Pulley Fastenings; and the following is declared to be a description of the same.
Sash-pulleys are generally secured in place by screws, a inortise being carefully made in the'window-sash or other place and the pulley iitted therein. This operation requires care and accuracy, and takes considerable time.
The object of my present invention is the construction of a sash-pulleythat is simple, requiring no screws, and can be quickly secured in place in a simple lnortise.
My invention ccnsistsin combining with the ordinary sash-pulley, penetrating points or prongs upon the lower end ofthe oase, or the end that enters the lower part of the niortise, and a turn-button in the upper end having a penetrating edge, and a head by which it may be partially revolved to force the end into the wood and hold the pulley-case in place.
In the drawings, Figure l is a section of a sash and elevation of the sash-pulley and its case. Fig. 2 is a face view ofthe pulley, and Fig. 3 is a rear view of the pulley.
The sash-pulley is composed of the face a, side walls, b, top c, and bottom d, forming the case, wit-hin which is the wheel e, and as these parts are of well-known form they do not need further description. Upon the lower part, d, of the oase are the penetrating points or prongs j'. One, two, or more of these prongs may be used, as desired, and they are preferably east with, and as part of the sash-pulley. A hole is provided in the upper part of the face a,
and in this hole is placed the head andstem 4o g, and the turn-button 7L is riveted or other' wise secured to the said stein at the back of the face a, and the edge t of said turn-button h is beveled and sharpened, as shown in Fig. l.
To set this sash-pulley a simple mortise is cut in the wood of the sash, corresponding in size to the face a, the lower part of the pulleycase is set in the mortise, and the points f driven into the wood until the lower edge of 5o the face a rests upon the wood of the sash. The pulley is then pushed into the mortise until its face a is iiush with the surrounding surface of wood. lThe head and stern g and button h are now given a half turn by a screw-driver, which causes the point t' to einbed itself into the wood, and the sash-pulley is thereby secured in place. The turnbutton h should be turned down, as shown in Fig. 3, while the sash-pulley is being :fitted to place.
I claim as my invention- A sash-pulley case having projections f at one end adapted to being driven into the woodwork of the window-frame, in combination with a turn-button applied near the other end ofthe case, the stem of the turn-button passing through the case and terminating with a slotted head, whereby said turn-button may be partially revolved to force the beveled end into the wood of the window-frame, substan- 7o tially as set forth.
Signed by me this 16th day of January, A.
GEORGE WV. PERO.
