BUCK-SAW FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 296,418, dated April 8, 1884.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEOPHILUS LAROUCHE, of Williamstown, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Buck-Saw Frame, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a firm and easily-adj ustable buck-saw frame, and one which will not fall apart when loosened up for removing or replacing the saw-blade.
The invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a broken side elevation of my new and improved buck-saw frame.
A B represent the wooden bars of the frame, and 0 represents the saw-blade, which may be held in the lower ends of the bars A B, in the usual manner, by the pins a b.
To the inner edge of the bar B is secured the casting D, which is screwtapped, as shown at c, and to the inner edge of the bar A is se cured the corresponding casting, E, which is socketed, as shown at d, and between these two castings D E is placed the truss-rod F, which has the ball d formed upon one end, which works in the socket d, and has the screw-threaded shank f formed upon the other end, which works in the screw-tap c, as shown clearly in the drawing. The upper ends of .the wooden bars A B are tied by the tie-rod G and nut g, and the said bars A B are braced from the upper end of the bar A down nearly to the center of the length of the bar B by the diagonally-placed brace-rod E. This rod H, by preference, is formed at its upper end with the eye 72, through which the tierod G passes, and against which the upper end of the wooden bar A abuts, and at h the rod H is bent where it passes through the wooden bar 13, and at this bend it is provided with the collar h which may be adjustable, and which forms an abutment for the wooden bar B, and at its outer end the rod H is screw-threaded to re ceive the nut h The truss-rod F is made large in the center, and has the passage 6 made through it, whereby the rod may be turned either byhand orbypassingapin orbarthrough the opening 6, to serve as a wrench in trussing up the saw. By this arrangement, by simply turning the truss-rod F to the right, it will force the bars A B apart and strain up the saw-blade 6, ready for use, and by turningthe rod F in the opposite direction it will draw the bars A B toward each other, so that the strain on the saw-blade C may be slackened and the blade removed, if desired. In taking the strain off from the saw-blade C the nuts h and y will first be turned outward upon the rods H G, and in straining up the saw-blade the nut y will first be turned tothe proper po sition on the rod G. Then the truss-rod F will be turned until the blade is properly strained up, and then the nut 72. will be turned down upon the rod H against the outer surface or edge of the wooden bar B. In this manner it will be seen that in removing the blade from and replacing it in the frame none of the parts of the frame need be entirely detached, so that there is no danger of the frame falling apart While removing or replacing the blade.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The bar A, provided with the socketed casting E, and the bar B, provided with a screw-tapped casting D, in combination with the truss-rod F, having ball (1 to turn in socket d, and screw-threaded shank f, entering screwtap a, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The diagonal brace H, having eye h at one end and collar If at the other, in combination with the bars A B and tie-rod G, passing through eye h, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
