SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 645,420, dated March 13, 1900.
' Application iiled August 21, 1899. Serial No. 727,949. (Nomodel.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, WILHELM HEIDECKEB', p a citizen of the United States, residing at New Hampton, in the county of Chickasaw and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Jacks forv Bracing and improved jack for the above purpose which.
can be readily applied to a threshing-machine without loss of time and which will effectually brace and steady the machine.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of a threshing-machine, showing my improved jack applied thereto. n Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the jack removed.
In the said drawings the reference-nu meral 1 designates the front axle, 2 one of the wheels, and 3 the bolster, of a threshing-machineof any ordinary or suitableconstruction.
The numeral 4 designates a base-board of any suitable material and size, and 5 two oppositely-inclined bars, the lower ends ofwhich rest on-said board, while the upper ends are adapted to engage with the bolster of the machine. near the lower end thereof, is a screw-rod 6, the inner end of which is formed with a hook 7. Engaging with said rod outside the bar Passing through one of said bars, .l
is a screw-threaded bur 8, provided with a crank 9, by turning which the rod is forced outwardly. Connected-with the other bar is' a chain 10, with one of the links of which the hook 7 is adapted to engage.
The manner ot using the device is as follows: The board 4 is placed on the ground loe tween the front wheels of the thresher, with the upper ends of the bars engaging with the .bolster of the latter. By now turning the vcrank 9 the screw-rod will be moved outwardly, causing the lower ends of the bars to be. forced toward eachother, so that` the upv per ends will tightly clamp the bolster. This l will cause the machine to -be braced and steadied, preventing to-and-fro movement of the same while lin operation, which is very in;`
jurious to the machine. The device can be readily and quickly applied and obviates the use of blocks or checks usually employed for the purpose.
Having. thus what I claim isn `The herein-described jackand brace con; sisting of the inclined bars, disconnected at their upper and lower ends, a screw-rod pass= ing through one of said bars and having a hook at its inner vend, the bur and crank, and the chain connected with the other bar and with the hookv on the-rod, substantially .as described.-
