Description
' (NoMddeL) G. N. BUCK. STOCKING 'SUPPO'RTER.
WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT w OFFICE.
GEORGE N. BUCK, OF MATTOON, ILLINOIS.
STOCKlNG-SUPPORTER.
. PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,406, dated January 2, 185.4; Application filed August 23. 1883. (No model.)'
view of a stocking supporter, showing my attachment. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the attachment enlarged, and Fig. 3 is a section of the same on line 00 a: of Fig. 2.
The stockingsupporter may consist of a belt or garter, A, having pendent elastic straps B secured thereto. I11 such a device it is common to pass the lower end of the straps B through the loopof a pin or stocking-securer, and fasten the end to a sliding or adjusting loop, through which the body of the strap is to be drawn in making the proper adjustments in length. Such an adjusting device, besides being formed in a separate piece from the pin, requires the strap to be sewed to it. In my invention I make the pin and adjusting-loop in one piece, so that the strap may be attached to the'loop without sewing. To this end I take a single piece of wire and bend it back and forth upon itself to form double folds a a, which are laid close togeth er, so as to form the ends of a single loop. Two loops, b b, are thus provided, which are parallel and separate from each other. The ends of the wire are then bent in the usual manner to form the pin 0 and eye or keeper 0. To this attachment the strap is adj ustably secured by passing its lower end reversely through the loops b, and then turning it up and passing it again through one of theloops. The strain on the strap thus causes it to be drawn in opposite directions in a well-known manner, producing a binding effect. To let out the strap,'it is only necessary to push the end back and then pull on the body of. the strap.
I do not claim a spring-pin having a single loop, through which a strap is to be passed; but
What I claim is-- A stocking-supporter attachment consisting of a single wire bent back and forth upon itself to form aseries of separate parallel loops, as an elastic strap-adjuster, and terminating in a spring-pin and eye or keeper, by which to. attach it t0 a stocking, substantially as shown and described.
GEO. N. 'BUCK.
