Description
E. HALSEY,
Clasps for Stocking-Supports.
. 14 7 Patented April 7,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT DEEIcE.
EDWARD HALSEY, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO MADAME SARAH LORYEA, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS'FOR STOCKING-SUPPORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,473, dated April 7, 1874 application filed December 30, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD HALSEY, of San J os, in the county of Santa Clara, in the State of California, have invented a new and Improved Clasp for Stocking-Supports; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawing forming apart of this specification, in which is represented a face view of the clasp.
My invention consists in forming the clasp of two triangular or wedgeshaped parts, one formed of sheet metal, and sliding on and in closing the other, so that the two may be locked together, as hereinafter described.
The upper part B of the clasp is formed of a wire or wires, m m, bent into a loop at the top to provide for attachment of the strap A, and into a triangular shape at the lower end or foot n. The wires pass intermediately through a hole, 0, in the top portion of a thimble, D, which is formed of a sheet-metal plate, of a rectangular or oval shape, and whose sides I) b are bent inward at an angle opening downward from the hole 6. Thus the thimble D and foot correspond in their general form or outline, and the former is adjustable on the wires m m, to allow the fabric to be inserted. v
When the foot n is drawn up into the thinlble, the stocking or fabric will be clamped securely between them.
To maintain a permanent connection of the clasp with the fabric, it is more or less essential the strap A (which will, in practice, be pendent from a waistband or other portion of the dress) should be elastic and, to adjust its length, an ordinary slide, 0, may be employed.
I do not design to limit the use of the clasp, as above indicated, since it is applicable to garters as well.
What I claim is The clasp formed of the part B, having triangular foot n, and the correspondinglyshaped thiinble D, combined as shown and described.
EDWARD HALSEY.
W'itnesses J. T. BURKETT, J. O. MOKEE.
