  • My invention relates to a new and improved zinc, by means of which I obtain a certain contact between the conducting wire or strip and the zinc anda low resistance at said point of contact. Ihave heretofore, on the 28d day of May, 1882, obtained Letters Patent of the United States for azinc constructed like the one here shown. It has been found in practice, however, that by the use of a brass or other nut of a different material from the zincitself aliability to electrical action arose between the nut and the zinc, thereby injuring the contact there. I have discovered that by making the nut of zinc, as well as the body of zinc itself, this difficulty is avoided, and a simple and inexpensive zinc is obtained, in which the liability to bad contacts is almost entirely obviated.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,286, dated January 1, 1884.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HORATIO J. BREWER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Zines for Batteries, of which the followingis a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to a new and improved zinc, by means of which I obtain a certain contact between the conducting wire or strip and the zinc anda low resistance at said point of contact. Ihave heretofore, on the 28d day of May, 1882, obtained Letters Patent of the United States for azinc constructed like the one here shown. It has been found in practice, however, that by the use of a brass or other nut of a different material from the zincitself aliability to electrical action arose between the nut and the zinc, thereby injuring the contact there. I have discovered that by making the nut of zinc, as well as the body of zinc itself, this difficulty is avoided, and a simple and inexpensive zinc is obtained, in which the liability to bad contacts is almost entirely obviated.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view, showing the nut in section.
