Description

F. L. LANGHAMMER.
BUCKLE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 15 13- Patented July 27, 1915.
FRANK L. LANG-HAMMER; OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
BUCKLE.
Application filed February 15, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. LANGHAM- area, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in buckles or slides for garment supporters and the like of the class wherein one end of the webbing is secured to the central bar of the slide and the other end of the webbing may be threaded through slots on either side of said central bar and over said central bar. My invention has particular reference to means for securing the webbing end to said central bar.
In the following I have described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, one form of device illustrating the application of the principles of my invention, the features thereof being more particularly pointed out hereinafter in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of a slide illustrating one way of practising my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional edge View of the structure shown in Fig. 1 along the line 22 looking in the direction of the arrows; Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2 but showing a webbing end clamped to the slide; and Fig. t is a side elevation of Fig. 2 showing the serrated upturned portion.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings the slide proper is shown as comprising a central bar a and outer bars 6, 6, slots 0, 0, being formed between the respective outer bars and the central bar by stamping the blank with a die or otherwise.
The material to produce one of said slots is completely severed from the blank while the material to produce the other of said slots is unsevered along the edge adjacent the central bar a, thus leaving an attached Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2'7, 1915.
Serial No. 748,519.
portion which may be turned up out of the plane of the bars and then bent downward toward the central bar so as to form a jaw (Z partly over-lapping bar a.
I have thus produced a slide which is formed from a single element, technically known as a one-piece slide, which may be easily and cheaply manufactured and wherein the webbing end may be firmly grasped without the necessity of folding it over the central bar and securing it by stitches for example.
I do not restrict myself to the details and arrangement of parts shown and described further than the scope of the appended claim demands.
The edge of the central bar at opposite the edge from which the jaw d extends is provided with an outturned portion 9, preferably in the form of serrations or teeth, the jaw 62? being adapted to fold down behind said outturned portionn as shown in Fig. 3.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A buckle for a strip of webbing, comprising a frame having a main bar and a secondary bar substantially parallel thereto and having a slot disposed between said main bar and said secondary bar, a jaw formed integrally at one edge of said main bar and adapted to be bent on one face of said main bar over an end portion of said strip and a serrated outturned portion disposed on said one face and integral with and at the opposite edge of said main bar and in advance of the free end of said jaw and adapted to penetrate into said strip.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
