NATHANIEL S. MCFARLAN, OF SYRACUSE, NEW' YORK.
ATTACHING SASH-STOPS TO WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,994, dated July 3, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I7 NATHANIEL S. Mo- FARLAN, of the city of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Self-Adj usting Tindow Spring and Stop Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the drawings accompanying this specification and to the letters of reference marked on the said drawings.
Letter A indicates the window stop lying on the jarnb casing with a spring attached to the jamb.
Letter B indicates the window jainb.
Letter C indicates the catch, fastened to the window stop, lying in the window spring.
Letter D indicates the space which receives the spring marked F and E.
Letter E indicates the front or side of the spring.
Letter F indicates the edge of the spring.
Letter Gr indicates the catch, which is attached to the window stop.
Letter' H indicates the front of the catch.
Letter I indicates the edge of the catch as it is attached in the window stop.
Letter J indicates the front of the window stop usually full size in width.
Letter K indicates the edge of the window stop usually full size in thickness.
Letter L indicates the window spring as it lies in the box or machine.
Letter' M indicates the part which receives the catch.
Letter N indicates the adjustable box which the spring bears against.
Letter O indicates the same as letter M lying out of its box.
Letter P indicates the front of the part which lies in the boX to receive the catch.

The nature of my invention is for the purpose of holding window sash to its place and prevent its rattling; and the convenience of taking out the stop.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my self adjusting window spring and self fastener out of brass or malleable iron. The spring is placed in the jamb casing of the window directly under the window stop. The fastener' is placed in the stop and meshes in the adjustable spring which holds the stop to its place.
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Said self adjusting window spring and stop fastener.
