Description

UNiTEn sTATEs rATEN'r arriba.
HENRY T. STANARI), OF VAYNE, MICHIGAN.
SASH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent No, 32,557, dated June 25, 1861.
To all whomdt may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY T. STANARD, of IVayne, in the county of Vayne, in the State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Machine for Fastening lindow- Sashes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a` full, clear, and exact description of the construction and opeation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, n'iaking a part of this specification, in which Figure l; is an elevation of that part of the janib of the window frame to which the fastening is applied, being that part where the two sash ineet; Fig. 2; is a vertical transverse section through the line 2, '2, Fig. l, Fig. 3; is a horizontal section through line 3, 3, Fig. l.
Similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
This invention consists in fastening sash by pressing any elastic substance firin against the sash, operated by lneans of a lever and cain as will be hereinafter described.
To enable those skilled in the art to inake and use 1ny invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the drawing A, represents the jainb or pulley stile; B, the blind stop; C, C, vthe ways for the sashes; D, the parting strip between the sash; E, inside stop (a part of which is reinoved,) F, is a piece of any elastic substance let into the jainb and fastened with a screw at one end, at g; N, is a nietal plate with projections in front, in which is hung the cams, H, H, which turn freelyk on the pins a, a.; there are other projections upon the back of plate N, in which is hung the lever L, to turn freely on pin p, Fig. 3; I-I, H, Fig. 2, are cani-shaped levers that turn freely on the pins a, n, and work through the slot in the plate Il, and act upon the lever L; L, is a spring to keep the calns and lever in place.
The operation of the several parts herein above described is as follows: After placing the sash in the required position, turn the handle of the cani down as shown by the red lines in Fig'. 2; this acts upon the lever L, bringing it in the position shown by the red lines in Fig. 3, pressing the elastic substance firln against the sash; thereby holding it firln in its position, when the handle H, is again brought to an upright position the spring z, acts upon the lever L, and the elasticV substance recedes to its seat in the jainb allowing the sash to inove freely up or down. To regulate the degree of pressure against the sash; the elastic substance lnay be thicker or thinner as the case niay require. A horizontal section through line Ll, l, Fig. l, is the salne in principle as the one shown at Fig. 3.
Having thus described iny invention, what I claiinas 4new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
The cani H, lever L, and elastic substance F, all arranged and operating as herein specified. p
HENRY T. STANARD.
