NITED PATEN OFFic -BOSOM-SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,778, dated December 4, 1883.
Application filed June 5, 1883. (No model.)
To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLARD HARRIS N OR- RIs, of the village of Glens Falls, county of Varren, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in 130s om-Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to apparel-shirts and a manner of attaching the bosoms thereto; and my invention consists, as will be subsequently described herein, in the combination, with the exterior front facing or front re-enforce of a shirt, of a bosom attached to said facing throughout the length of the bosom, on the plait-lines thereof, between the collar-band and the lower end of the bosom, and with the body proper of the shirt free from and unattached to the bosom and exterior facing or re enforce between the neckband and the bottom union of the bosom, re-enforce, and body proper of the shirt, the object and purpose of my invention being to so make the shirt that the bosom will have a free lateral adjustment to the motion of the arms and body, and vertically be held in place when being worn.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, there are two figures shown illustrating my invention, and in both of which the same designation of parts by letter reference is used.
Figure 1 shows a front view of that part .of a shirt which contains the bosom, front exterior facing or re-enforce, and shirt body proper at the front, with portions of the reenforce shown as out out at the upper corners. Fig. 2 illustrates, in a cross-section-taken on the line as 00 of Fig. 1, the relative position of the parts, with their thickness somewhat. exaggerated to better illustrate them.
The parts of the shirt thus shown and the seams which unite them are designated by letter reference, and as follows:
The letter B indicates the bosom, b b the sides-of the latter, P its longitudinal central plait, and p p seams connecting the bosom with the re-enforce or front facing, R.
The letter S designates the shirt-body proper, and N indicates stitching connecting the re-enforce with the shirt-body, N where this stitching in continuity unites the bosom and reenforce to the shirt-body the bosom, and N where these same parts are united at the neckband. 1
Thus made, the sides of the bosom (designated at b b) are left free for adjustment, and the body of the shirt back of the re-enforce is unattached to the latter between the top and bottom of the bosom. WVhile the sides of the bosom are thus left free for lateral adjustment, the bosom and attached re-enforce are also left free for lateral adjustment independently of the shirt-body proper at the front, between the neckband andthe bottom of the bosom.
I am well aware that I cannot claim, broad- 1y, a fly-edge upon the bosom, and that my invention as relating thereto is limited to my improved method of bination with a re-enforce that is unattached to the shirt-body proper at the front, between the neckband and the bottom of the bosom.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. In a shirt, the combination, with a front exterior facing or re-enforce, of a bosom attached on its plaitline centrally to the said re-enforce or front facing, and said re-enforce or facing and attached bosom joined to the shirt-body at the bottom and neckband top of the bosom, with the sides of said bosom unattached, as shown and described.
2. In a shirt, the combination, with an exterior facing or re-enforce, of a bosom attached longitudinally and centrally on its plait-line to said re-enforce or exterior facing, with the latter and connected-bosom attached to the shirt-body at the bottom and neckband top of the bosom, with theshirt-body unattached to said re-enforceor exterior facing between the neckbandtop and the bottom of the bosom, as shown and described.
Signed at Glens Falls,-New;York, this 1st day of June, 1883, and in the presence of the two witnesses whose names are hereto attached.
