ADAM WENTLING, OF HIAWATHA, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR OF QNE-HALF TO 0. H. LAWRENCE, OF SAME PLACE.
TUG-SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Batent N 0. 289,4fi'9, dated December 4, 1883.
' Application filed March 15', 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADAM WENTLING, of Hiawatha, in thecounty of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tng-Slides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in theart to which 1t appertains to make andnse the same. v
- My invention relates to an improvement in harness; and it consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed in the I 5 claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a portion of a harness embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the billet-loop.
A is a tug-slide, preferably made of malleable cast-iron, and provided with a slot, B, for the reception of the tug, and with eyes 0,
, for the attachment of the straps D and E, by
means of which it is secured to the saddle' I skirt F. The upper and lower ends of" the straps D are respectively passed through the buckle G and the eye in the upper end of the tug-slide, the extreme ends of the strap being held in place by means of the billet-loop H,
which is constructed as follows: The front portion of the billet-loop is constructed with a rectangular slot or opening, a, within which is received the free end of the strap K, the upper end of the latter being stitched to the sad- 3 5 dle-skirt, while its lower portion is securedto the buckle G. The rear portion of the billetloop is provided with an opening, b, the rear wall of which is composed of the clasps c. To the central partition, d, are secured the rivets I, the latter being located so as to project within the slots 6, formed in the clasps. Theextreme ends of the strap D are secured within the opening I), and secured by the rivets I, and held against displacement by means of the clasps c. The upper end of the strap E is passed through the eye formed in the lower end of the tug slide, and then returned and stitched or otherwise secured to a contiguous portion of the strap to form the loop shown.
The strap E is passed through the billet-loop L, which is of the same construction as the billet-loop J, and is secured by its rivets to the lower end of the saddleskirt F, the belly-band (not herein shown) being attached to the lower end of the said strap E. Thus it will be seen my arrangement the straps may be readily inserted beneath the clasps and over the rivets,
and when such straps are forced home upon the rivets they will be held by the clasps.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The billet-loop provided with a body having a rectangular opening, a, and the riv- 7o ets I, and formed with the two oppositely-dis posed pairs of clasps a, each clasp being separated from its companion clasp by a slot, e, whereby a strap may be inserted between the body and clasps and fixed upon the rivets without bending the clasps, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the billet-loop constructed with rectangular opening a, rivets I, two oppositely-disposed clasps, a, each beinglseparated from its companion clasp by a slot, 0, of the tug-slide A, buckle G, and straps K and D, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing 8 5 witnesses.
ADAM WENTLING. Witnesses:
A. R. MAY, SAML. WILSON.
