LAMP-CHIMNEY CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,753, dated October 16, 1883,
Application filed June 25,1883. (No model.)
T: (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL U. WIEsnNDAN- GER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Comanche, in the county of Comanche and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Chimney Cap, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to lamp-chimney caps or protectors; and it has for its object to produce a dev'icewhich shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability, and general efficiency. To this end it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved lampchimney cap or protector; and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, showing the same applied to a lamp-chimney in position for operation.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
' A in the drawings designates a cap or plate having a flange or edge, B, which may be scalloped or otherwise ornamentedf O G are straps projecting downwardly from diametrically-opposite sides of the plate A, and bent so as to form loops or hooks D upon their innor sides, near their lower ends. A ring or band, E, is securedto the lower ends of the straps G O, which are thereby connected, as shown. p
The operation of my invention will be read ily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The device is adjusted upon the lamp-chimney, which may be of any ordinary construction, with the ring or band E encircling the said chimney, and with the loops or hooks D of the straps C G catching over the upper edge of the chimney, upon which the device is thus supported. The cap or plate A is thus held in a horizontal position some dis tance above the top of the chimney, so that it will serve to prevent a downward draft, which might put out the flame. with my improvement may-therefore be carried outdoors without danger of being put out or exploding on account of rain or wind. The protector, being made of metal, also serves by radiation to equalize the heat of the chimney and prevent it from cracking. I I
The ring or band E is by preference'made of elastic metal and with severed or disconnected ends, as shown in the drawings, so that chimneys of different sizes. I also intend to manufacture the device of various sizes. to fit lamps of all kinds, sizes, and constructions.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States As an improvement in lamp-chimney caps or protectors, the combination of the flanged cap-plate, straps projecting downwardly from the same on diametricallybpposite sides, and provided near their lower ends with hooks or loops formed on their inner sides, and an elastic ring or band having severed or disconnected ends, said band being secured to the lower ends of the straps, which are thereby connected, as set forth.
In testimony that my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EMIL ULRICH WIESENDANGER. Witnesses:
