FRANK s. GULIOK, OF BOLIVAR, NEW YORK.
STOVE-PIPE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,748, dated September 25, 1883. Application filed March 9, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK S. GULIGK, of Bolivar, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Stove-Pipe Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists of an extensible hang- -er and an extensible hoop, contrived in a simple arrangement, for suspending stove-pipes from the ceiling in a better way than by the wire suspenders commonly employed, as hereinafter fully described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of a section of stove-pipe suspended from the ceiling by claim as new,
my improved device. Fig. 2 is a'longitudinal sectional elevation of Fig. 1, and. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of Fig. 1.
I make a hanger of two flat bars, a and b, one of which has a head or collar, 0, to be screwed up against the ceiling e by a screw, d, fixed in the head, the head having a washer, f, of rubber, leather, or other elastic substance, to be compressed against the ceiling for an elastic bearing that will afford a good bearing against the irregular surface of the ceiling. The other bar has a bracket, 9, at the lower end, to be attached to a hoop or band, h, by a screw, 2', and a clamp-nut, j, having thumb-bits for turning it readily by hand, and each of said bars has a corrugated or notched side, k, to afford positive connection of the two bya clamp-bolt, Z, and thumb-nut m, when bolted together to prevent shifting upon each other. The bar I) is slotted along most of its the bolt Z to shift along it, to
lengthen or shorten the hanger by slackening the two parts a and b, as
the nut and shifting required. The hoop h is connected by an ex- The bars a b. are to be cast open-work or ornamental, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I Patent, is
1. In a pipe-holder, the combination, with the adjustable hanger, composed of the serrated or toothed bars adjustably connected together, of the adjustable or expansible collar, connected to a right-angled extension of one of the bars of the hanger by a clamp-bolt, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the elastic pad or washer f with the head 0, attaching-screw d, extensible bars a b, bracket g, and the expansible hoop h, substantially as described.
3. The combination of the extensible hoop h, clamp-bolt and nut i j, and the extensible bars a b, head a, and attaching-screw d, substantially as described. I
4. An adjustable holder for stove-pipes, constructed substantially as described, and consisting of a hanger composed of two adjustable parts, and a hoop adj ustably connected to one of the hangers.
