NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES A. NEVINS, OF SAILOR SPRINGS, ILLINOIS.
ANlMAL-POKE.
SPECIFICATION forming. part of Letters Patent No. 263,563, dated August 29, 1882. Application filed February 25, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES A. NEVINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sailor Springs, in the county of Clay and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvemen ts in Animal-Pokes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to animal-pokes; and the novelty consists in the construction of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, similar letters of reference indicate like parts of the inveution.
Figure 1 is a partial view, in perspective, of a horse with my improved poke applied thereon. Fig. 2 is a front elevation ofmy poke; Fig. 3, a side elevation with the bar shortened, and Fig. 4 a detail showing the shoe in section and the manner of securing it to the lower end of the bar.
A is a flexible metallic band or collar, provided at one end with a ring, a, by which it is secured to the cast-metal bracket B. The other end of this collar A is provided with a snaphook, B, so that it may be detachably secured to the ring b, attached to the bracket 0. A light wooden bar, 1), is secured between the brackets B and U by a bolt, 0, and extends downward a snfficient length. The lower end of this bar D is provided with an enlarged portion, (I, which prevents the shoe E from being pulled 0d of the bar, and is secured from slipping up by a screw, 0.
The device is attached to an animal as shown in Fig. 1, and is equally adapted to all domestic cattle.
Thesimplicity, cheapness, lightness, and utility of my improved poke will be readily understood from the above.
If preferable, the collar A may be made of leather or other flexible material, instead of metal.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
In an animal-poke, the flexible collarAand spring-clip B, in combination with the bar D d, shoe E, the brackets B O, and the single bolt 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. NEVINS.
