PERFUME TOWEL BAR Filed Jan. 30, 1957 INVENTOR. Arline Zimms United States Patent PERFUME TOWEL BAR Arline Timms, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Application January 30, 1957, Serial No. 637,227
3 Claims. (Cl. 299-24) This invention relates to towel racks and more particularly to a perfumed towel bar.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a towel bar for bathrooms which has means for removing laundry odors from towels and for keeping towels supported thereon in a dainty and sweet smelling condition.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a perfume towel bar of the above type wherein support brackets are provided for engagement with end of a tubular towel bar, each of which includes a removable plug for supporting a perfume-saturated sponge therein for perfuniing towels supported upon the bar.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a perfumed towel bar bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a perfumed towel bar made in accordance with the present invention, in operative use upon a wall;
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal cross-sectional view of the device as shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse cross-sectional view taken along line 33 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged exploded perspective view of one of the elements of the device shown in Figure 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, and more particularly to Figures 1 and 2 thereof, a device made in accordance with present invention is shown to include a pair of longitudinally spaced brackets 10, each'of which is provided with a substantially fiat base 11 that may be secured to any desired wall surface, such as by screws 12. The opposite end of each bracket is provided with a socket portion 15 having an internally threaded bore 16 extending therethrough and communicating with an enlarged 'counterbore 17 that is adapted to removably receive one end of a tubular bar 20.
As is more clearly shown in Figures 2 and 4, a plug ratented Sept. 9, 1958 22 is provided with a threaded portion 23 that is adapted to threadingly engage with the threaded bore 16 of each bracket 10. Each plug also includes a tubular portion 24 of substantially smaller diameter than the diameter of the internal bore 7 of the bar. This tubular portion 24 is adapted to removably receive a cylindrical sponge element 25 that may be saturated With perfume of any desired essence. I
It will be noted, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, that the tubular bar 20 is provided with longitudinally and circumferentially spaced rows of perforations 29 through which the odor of the perfume is permitted to pass from the interior thereof outwardly into contact with any towels that may be supported on the bar 20. Thus, the perfume that evaporates from the sponge 25 is directed into contact with the towels that are supported upon the bar. In order to replace the sponges 25 or to saturate them with additional perfume, the plugs 22 are removed from the assembly by rotating the handle head 26 thereof, after which the sponges may be saturated and the plugs returned to their normal position.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A perfumed towel bar comprising, in combination, an elongated tubular bar, a pair of brackets each having a bore and a counterbore, each end of said bar being removably supported within the counterbore of one of said brackets, and perfume means comprising a plug in threaded engagement within said bore of each of said brackets adapted to supply perfumed odor to the interior of said bar, each said plug having a tubular portion of substantially smaller diameter than and spaced from the inside surface of said bar, said tubular portion being concentric with said tubular bar and said counterbore, and a perfumed sponge removably mounted within each one of said tubular portions.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said tubular bar is provided with a plurality of rows of longitudinal spaced perforations, said rows being circumferentially and longitudinally spaced apart.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said plug further comprises a handle head portion adapted to facilitate the insertion and removal of said plug with respect to said associated bracket.
