This invention relates generally to bathroom or lavatory fixtures and is more particularly concerned with a novel paper roll holder readily usable for holding a roll of toilet paper, for example, in a readily accessible position adjacent the stool in a lavatory.

Oftentimes the roll of toilet paper in a lavatory is not located in a readily accessible position to a person using the stool therein, the roll of toilet paper is exposed and thus subject to becoming wet when a person is Washing his hands, for example, and accordingly it is highly desirable to have the holder for the roll of toilet paper in a readily accessible position.

A primary object of invention is to provide a novel lavatory fixture for holding a roll of toilet paper or the like which may be disposed on a vertical portion of a washbowl trap, and wherein a fresh roll of toilet paper may be substituted for that previously used in a ready and expeditious manner, and which can be readily installed without the use of special tools.

This together with other objects and advantages Which will subsequently become apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the washbowl of a lavatory showing the novel paper roll holder assembly mounted thereon;

Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on line 2-2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 2; and

Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing in detail, a washbowl is indicated generally at 10, said washbowl being suitably mounted on a vertical wall 12 and incorporating a gooseneck trap 14 incorporating a vertically extending portion 16 upon which the novel toilet paper roll holder assembly 18 will be mounted. It will be noted by disposing the roll of toilet paper beneath the washbowl said roll of toilet paper is substantially protected from becoming wet while washing ones hands, and further the roll of toilet paper is not only available to a user of the stool in the bathroom, but the same is not readily noticed when disposed beneath the washbowl.

The paper roll holder 18 comprises a U-shaped clip element 20 which is disposed about an intermediate portion of the vertical portion 16 of the trap 14, said clip element 20 incorportating a pair of converging

leg portions

22 and 24 which have an arcuate cross section, the concave portions thereof opening toward each other, and removably received between the

leg portions

22 and 24 is a transverse nut element 26 having a frusto-conical shape extending transversely between the concave portions of the

leg portions

22 and 24, said nut element incorporating integral laterally extending abutment portions 23 and 30, see Figure 2, extending from opposite sides of the nut element, said

abutment elements

28 and 30 interengaging with means or

transverse slot portions

32 and 34, respectively, extending in aligned relationship transversely through the

leg portions

24 and 22, respectively. The nut element 26 incorporates a centrally dis posed internally threaded bore portion 36 therethrough.

Circumposed about the exterior of the

legs

22 and 24 is one end 38 of a tubular sleeve 40 which extends laterally from the clip element 20, the roll of toilet paper R being journaled on the sleeve 40.

A retaining assembly is indicated generally at 42 comprising an enlarged knob element of plastic or any other suitable material as indicated at 44, said knob element terminating in a reduced diameter portion 46 extending into the other end 48 of the sleeve member 40, said portion 46 of the knob element having imbedded therein the end portion 56 of a threaded bolt element 52, the threaded end portion 54 thereof being received within the internally threaded bore portion 36 of the nut element 26.

The roll of toilet paper R is retained loosely on the sleeve member 40 by the knob 44, the knob being so proportioned to slidably receive the tubular core of the paper roll thereover in order to replenish the supply of toilet paper i.e. replacing the used roll with a new roll. When the knob 44 is rotated, the threaded end portion 54 of the bolt element 52 moves the nut element 26 toward the knob 44, resulting in the

leg portions

22 and 24 of the clip element 20 being pulled further inwardly Within the sleeve 40 and into engagement with the sleeve, by means of the locking engagement of the

abutment portions

28 and 30 carried by the nut 26 with the

slot portions

32 and 34 formed in the

leg portions

24 and 22 of the clip element 20. Accordingly, the vertical portion 16 of the trap will be tightly gripped by the clip element 20, and in this manner retained on the vertical trap portion thus being readily installed without the use of any tools.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A lavatory fixture assembly for disposing a roll of toilet paper in laterally extending relationship from a vertical support beneath a washbowl or .the like comprising a U-shaped clip for disposition about an intermediate portion of the vertical support, a nut element removably received in an end portion between leg portions of the clip and including an internally threaded bore portion, opposed abutment elements carried by said nut element and engaging with slot portions formed in the leg portions of said clip, a tubular sleeve extending laterally in circumposed relationship at one end from the leg portions of the clip, and a retaining assembly comprising a knob element overlying the other end of the sleeve and including a threaded shaft extending through the sleeve and into the threaded bore portion of the nut element for removable engagement therewith, said leg portions of the clip converging toward each other, and said nut element including a frusto-conical shape, wherein rotation of the threaded shaft into the threaded bore portion of the nut element urges the leg portions of said clip further inwardly within the sleeve and into engagement with the sleeve for clampingly engaging the vertical support upon which the assembly is mounted.
